to me personally by the owner of Oma Pride that she will never knowingly sell her food to labradoodle or goldendoodle breeders or even to people who own labradoodles.. She has a very strong "bad" opinion of labradoodles .. I personally do not want to support her business feeding my doodles Oma food.... There has been more than one incident with this person with her condemnation of doodles........Just wanted you all to be aware of the food business for your dog that you support........
Although I do not feed our doodles Raw food. I think it is important to know about the people who produce the products we use. I would not knowingly use any products from someone who's opinions and actions are in conflict with my own. Thank you for bringing this to everyones attention.
I is amazing that someone who supposedly loves animals could single out a certain breed to hate. If they knew Doodles, they could never hate them. For someone to say this, is pretty ignorant and will never get my business.
Thank you Marci for sharing this with us. It seems that I have heard that. Do you know if she has a relative that actually has a doodle? Recently I had seen something about a raw provider who would not give doodle owners/ breeders the time of day. I think the story went that she saw a breeder who she knew previously bred poodles and screamed in the middle of a show when she saw her. Told her she could not believe what she was doing to the integrity of the breed. Someone later posted that a relative, maybe SIL owned one and how funny those family get togethers must be. I should have made a note of the food but did not since I do not feed raw. I am noting it now though, and we all know which kind of publicity travels faster.
Place Evangers on your list as well. While the owner did not say this was her opinion when I spoke to her, she backed her southeast sales rep who is in charge of the breeder program. I had long searched for the right food recently and they were in our top 3, our dogs LOVED it. I went to a private expo for merchants and met her - seems their 'breeder program' is only for show dogs, champions and AKC breeders. On the application no where does it ask about breeding practices, health testing, etc... it does ask how many awards you have won, etc... When I questioned my concerns she actually asked me why I breed labradoodles and not just do poodles if I wanted allergy friendly. To my surprise out of my mouth flew "Oh so your food is only for AKC breeds?" The dealer at the next table got a kick out of it - they print custome t-shirts, etc... and he told me "by the way we print for ALL breeds". She suggested that I just get a wholesale license and then I could buy at a discount ~ yet another conflict of ethics because it suggests I use a wholesale license in a manner other than it was intended to purchase for my own use rather than for resale. It was a bit more detailed than that but I am sure you get the idea. It is very important to me not to financially support any company that so openly expresses such negative feelings. You would think they could at least keep their mouth shut in the name of profit and share their opinions in a more private context if they must.
That was me she was screaming at at the dog show! ... She lives right down the road from me, how awful it is!........I was going to sell Oma at our store right about the time i got my first doodle, now i have 11,(in guardian homes mind you, not all with me!), only three with me...anyways, after that i obviously couldnt even sell Oma food even if i wanted to as there was a ban on selling to doodle breeders.......I overheard a woman who was at a dinner party last week say the Oma owner(name withheld) was asked what she thought of doodles as they loved them and wanted to get one and she flipped out and said her company had a policy not to sell to doodle breeders...........i just really couldnt believe it....but its true so enough is enough, i just choose not to recommend Oma food to anyone and will not use it for ANY of my dogs, doodles, poodles or labs! Crazy world out there! I agree about sharing their opinions in a more professional way and in private and not in attack mode. Thanks for the input
On another note warning for raw feeders. If when you purchase your frozen food you see any 'blood' on the rolls I have been told by several merchants that means at some point it became at least partially thawed. Could have been in transport, seems some distributors have not been shipping with the means to keep the product frozen. I do not have specific brands, just a heads up as I have heard of a few Florida dogs who have become sick.
