I have a question for you... would you want to stay with other DK members when you are traveling?  Would you want to host DK members that are traveling?

On a different social network today (on the same platform as us) I saw a feature that allowed you to search for other members that would host your stay while in their city.  Call it couch surfing, spare bedroom squatting, whatever.  It sounded like it could be fun.

I would set up a new page where you could search for hosts in a given city or state.  You could then contact them and work out the details.  What do you think?  Would you want to do that?

To make it work you would just have to answer one additional question to your profile:  "Would you host other DK members as overnight guests in your home?"

Let me know what you think.  I could set it up in a few hours and it might be a hoot.  I know I would only be a little scared of what Laurie, Fudge, and Vern said about us after their visit to Walla Walla.  :-)

WOOHOO!  Thanks for the invite Dori!  (and for what you're doing for Mimi...that's so great!)  You'd better enjoy your wine & rest up before baby Lilly crashes your pad!
I'm game!

When I first read this, I mis-read it and thought you were proposing a plan under which Doodle owners could leave their Doodles with other families who live nearby who have Doodles.  That is one step less than people staying with people -- a different idea, but one that I think would be fantastic.  Any takers?

There is, of course, a group for that.

Must bring doodles!
Of COURSE!!!!

I think this is a great idea. I've always felt that I'd be welcomed at almost any DK member home when travelling, and this would make a more "official" way to do that.  Totally great idea - let's go for it!

I would like to watch someone's doodle and the could watch my doodles's when we go on vac.
A friend of mine did couchsurfing with strangers from the website couchsurfing.com for 5 weeks all over Italy, and had the most amazing adventures. It is a really interesting way to see the world. I'm a bit more nervous about such things, and did it once only in India. It was interesting to say the least. I have also hosted, and both times were great experiences. it's great because on that site you can rate your host and/or guests and leave comments for them, that way others can see whether or not they are trustworthy. Also, you can set your preferences to indicate if you are willing to host (and for how many days) or if you are just willing to meet for coffee, that way people don't ask you if you don't want them to. I would totally participate in something like this, except that my guest room/office is tiny and there is a pull out sofa in the living room so it may not be overly comfortable, but other than that it wouldn't be a pleasure to meet all of you and your doodles.
Sherri is that last "wouldn't" a Freudian slip. I don't think I'd ever take a chance on couchsurfing. How do you know any of the comments are genuine? What a boon for budding serial killers : ) Seriously, you really do have to be careful with people you only know online. My son who is a computer programmer etc., is always warning me even about my DK buddies.
Oh Oh...I swear, I have only killed off a couple of boxes of cereal. But seriously, I am always pretty careful.
I'm glad to hear that. I'm also betting we only have cereal killers on DK.
