We enjoy our small vegetable garden and try new things each year.  A few years ago we tried garlic without success.  So sad.  So last year we researched more on growing garlic and came across an article ( I can't find it any longer ) where certain cultures have a ritual for planting garlic.

There are garlic planting festivals on the day of the Fall Equinox where everyone parties and plants garlic.  Many found it not only brings them Good Luck but good luck for the crops also!

So last year on the day of the Fall Equinox we planted our garlic.  A bit superstitious but as garlic lovers we were determined to grow garlic.

Ten months, plus a few days, yesterday was our Garlic Harvest.

Yup. Baby garlic in waiting.
This is all making me hungry : )
Like my father ( he stunk from garlic pills popular in the early 90's with the elderly )  I am going to really stink, but I'll be Rockin' Healthy
Rock on!

This site has a few recipes.  I've made the garlic monkey bread using the bread machine and both pasta dishes.  I liked all three recipes.  The bread I've made 3 times now.

GARLIC 2012

Early this year but it certainly did not hurt the harvest.  This year, our second year,  we expanded and tried 5 new varieties -Sweet all the way to Very Spicy ( my favorite).  Who knew there we so  many varieties with a broad width in taste.  Yum.  Remember, the secret is to plant naked, on the equinox

Braided and hung

Yum! And maybe it keeps the bugs away too? We're always hearing how it repels fleas and ticks, although I have yet to see any proof of that.

Which equinox, and is the garlic naked or are you naked? I know the doodle must be naked. LOL

The old tales say naked on the Fall Equinox.  We are all naked here for the planting.

Vampires maybe, but bugs are still a toss up.

Nice pictures of Garlic. Very envious. I have some planted which won't be ready until fall.

Not nearly the cool varieties you have. I know of a lady who ate a raw clove of garlic a day and lived to be 95. She had a bit of an odor :)

I also LOVE your big fence.

Ha!  Hazel, my father died at the age of 69.  He also ate so much garlic he had a bit of an odor too.   So, what we know is that you may, or may  not, live long, but certainly you will have a bit of an odor.  Right!  LOL

Haha.

What a gorgeous and incredible crop!! I am so impressed.
