I had to share this.  I put Frontline on Seamus the other day.  He was sleepy so after I applied it, he lay down on my hard wood floors.  As he did so I remember thinking to myself, I hope it doesn't stain my walls (he tends to lean a bit on my walls when he lays).  Well, today, I noticed some kind of weird stain on my hard wood floor (luckily they are not new) in exactly the same spot where Seamus was sleeping the other day.  The Frontline ate entirely through the varnish on my hard wood floors!!!! ENTIRELY!  It stripped it down to the wood....I'm not exaggerating.

Soooo I will be saving myself some money and will not be putting this chemical on my dogs anymore...if it does that to wood, what does it do to them?!

Do people nowadays just not use these flea/tick preventatives?? I never used them on my pug years ago and she was fine.  My dogs get the Lyme vaccine and their hair is kept short, so I'm not super worried about fleas.....What are your thoughts on not using this stuff?  Especially after hearing this?

That's amazing that it did that! Don't know what to say is the best thing, our vet is no help of course he wants to sell certain products to get money off them. We have to use something to keep them safe,

I

am new to Doodle kisses and I have to say you guys are the BEST. I have been struggling with what to put my Amante on. I don't want to use the chemicals, but I am afraid of either situation. I find great comfort in knowing I am not alone and can turn to you all. I lost my last dogs suddenly and am fearful of every decision!!!

Very scary. I lost my Lab Simba to cancer 4 years ago. We are waiting on our first dog since losing Simba and now I'm worried about what meds to give our doodle. What should we use for heartworm, worms and flea prevention?
I use Interceptor for heartworms and I still, uneasily, use Frontline.

Iam going through same concerns. I lost my Lucy 6 months ago. i have researched many things with a lot of help from fellow doodle lovers. I have decided on the "best Ever Cedar Spray" on cedarcidestore.com there is an informative infomercial on you tube as well. I understand your fears I struggle with every choice I need to make for my Amante. I am so afraid to make a decision that will harm him.

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback!  It's comforting to know that you all share the same concerns.  I'm going to look into some of the recommendations that you all sent me.  My husband and I are traveling with Seamus and Stella to Tennessee next month (and I've already been warned about bugs/fleas there) so I'm kind of torn now....we may have to use one last month's dose of Frontline (as I cringe) but I don't want them getting exposed in an area where I know there's lots of bugs.  We area also putting them in doggie day care for a day when we go to Nashville and most places require a flea treatment.  After that though....I'm tossing the stuff....I say this, I remind you, as I'm staring at an eaten away spot on my hard wood floors...ugh I already bought a stain to touch up the ugly spot!  And you know what...I forgot to mention in my last post...my groomer told me she found 2 fleas on Stella....she had literally just been given a dose of Frontline about a week before she got groomed...so what's the point?!

I placed frontline on my dog and it ate right through the the finish on my Brand New re-finished floors.  I just would like a dang disclaimer on there box.  What is so hard about that.  Then the consumer has knowledge of how potent this stuff is.

Can we start an update to this a Frontline Plus discussion from 2011? I saw on FB (not sure validity) that EPA further investigating these spot-on chemical flea and tick treatments, with the article promoting natural alternatives. Anyone know anything? We are using frontline plus and I'd like to know more... Thx!

You could start a new discussion/

Would it yield more responses? I'm being lazy, lol ;)

I'm still using Frontline Plus.  Guinness was at the Vet for his annual visit yesterday, and she told me that she's lost two dogs to Lyme Disease complications in the past month.  They were not on a preventative.  That scared me.  We are living in CT which is real "tick territory" and where Lyme disease originated, so it may be more of an issue for me, but I'd be really afraid to go with the home remedies.

Yes, and I'm not sure Diatomaceous Earth would really be as effective, right? I totally understand, Jane. Even if the Frontline Plus isn't ideal, the alternative is scarier. And I'm a (former) CT Yankee, too! :)
