Trying to Think Out "Flat Doodle"

So now that my 'big party' is over and my days are a little less hectic, I have been trying to think out the logistics for the "Flat Doddle".  I need some help, suggestions and feedback...

How should we get the addresses of the people who want to participate?  Should we set up a page like we do for the Christmas cards?  Do we just follow the list in order to send him, or do we send to who we want and cross the name off the list so others can choose?  How do you think he should travel?  First class as in a larger manilla type envelope or thru' economy in a legal sized envelope where he could be folded....  Who will become "Flat Doodle?  I was thinking of either using our cute new logo doodle and blowing him up (and laminating him) or if I get creative enough, maybe using the shape of a doodle and trying to use bits of pictures from participants to make up Mr. Flat.  Or.. perhaps the doodle that Camilla drew up with the sign in his mouth (if that's ok with Camilla). 

As far as the actual "visit".... I was thinking that if we all took a picture with Flat Doodle and sent it... the envelope would get quite heavy.  So how 'bout we just post the picture on here and write a little about where he went with you and what he did.  Perhaps sign the back of him with your DK name and location.  Or... I can include maps of the US, Canada, and world and you can identify on that???  Or.... somehow use a map online????

 

So these are the things that flood my brain each night as I try and go to sleep.... what do you all think?

What if we had one picture we all used and that picture starts with the first person, you, and you take a picture with Flat Doodle and post it, write a blurb and then mail it to the next person (could be me!!! lol) and then I take a picture with Flat Doodle, post it and mail it to the next person and so on and so on and so on. Maybe we can generate a list of people who want to participate by sending you a private message(so all infomation is not publicly posted) with our addresses and a list can be generated from there. There are really cute doodle pictures from cafe press and you can choose one maybe just leagal size. We can laminate it so it doesn't get ruined but then signing would be hard.  Okay those are my thoughts.  :)

Thanks Ali!  That's a good idea about the private message and then forwarding it (like the holiday cards).  If we laminate, I guess it would have to be signed w/ permanent marker, but that could pose some problems - smearing, signing too large... (I think that is Camilla's doodle on the Cafe press) ugh!  so much to think about!  THANKS!

I have to think about the rest but why not just open it up to the next person who wants it as far as addresses go?  So you post that Flat Doodle is ready and the 1st responder gets it. They post when flat doodle is ready and the 1st responder gets him next.  Unless you are thinking of making him a surprise and having a master list of addresses to choose from?

I think it would be more fun if it was a surprise when you get him. But we could email you personally with our info.

How about a map on the discussion that is marked with where Flat Doodle goes?  I am not techie enough to know if it could be edited with the new mark each time.  I like the idea that a photo and story is posted on the Flat Doodle Discussion for all to read and enjoy.  I think either a master list or next person signing up is way cool, BUT that would mean that you would have to be in charge of sending the next address to the current recipient.  It would mean more involvement by you.  My suggestion is to make several Flat Doodles when you make one because he could become lost in the mail.  Or... how about several Flat Doodles on a race around the world to see which one (use a different doodle for each) goes farthest and fastest? This way more people can participate and keep the interest up.

That's what I was thinking Nancy....about the map.  I was going to ask DH for help with that.  I like the idea of a race around the world.  Kind of using Adina's idea...we could even post something like, "Black Doodle available, who wants him" "white Doodle available...." you would be the only one who knows which one you need... kind of our version of Amazing (Doodle)Race".... keep the ideas coming!

I like the idea of taking pictures with Flat Doodle and just posting them in a blog or discussion telling where you took Flat Doodle and why. I had Flat Stanley once and he was not laminated and looked pretty good by the time he got here. I would make a Flat Doodle group that want to be involved and go down the list. Or you decide each time where it should go next and cross off who has had it....that way there would be more of a surprise element. You (like how I delegate) could keep track on a map where he has been and post it from time to time.
