So our pup Hurley (17 weeks) has decided that he wants to be our personal alarm clock. He used to sleep through the morning until we woke up (8am), but now he's decided that 7am would be good for him. He is very hungry in the morning and won't stop barking until we feed him. We feed him at 8am and 6pm so there shouldn't be too much of an issue here I dont think. He is simply hungry all the time. This morning he barked for a solid hour before "setttling down"...I use quotations because really he wasn't going to let up until he was fed. We are being very patient and waiting until he stops, but no one likes being barked at for a solid hour when they first wake up. He probably would have continued if we hadn't took him out with his pause to rest his vocal cords.

Any ideas on how we can fix this? Or is it really just patience and early morning wake ups until he grows out of this..

What is he eating and what is the recommended amount for a puppy? And is he really active all day? Lots of walks, play time, do you have other animals he plays with?  My two are both very food motivated, but barking at me would not be rewarded with a meal. Bella did it at first, for about a week, tops, before she realized barking meant all food activity stopped and she was ignored. When she stopped barking, I'd continue preparing the food. Bark, I walked away, on and on until she figured it out.

I would do what Adina suggested, and still give a snack somewhere in the day. The banging on the crate should help as well.

Good luck.

Brady is almost 13 weeks and he has settled into his food routine very nicely.   I feed him a total of 1 12 c. puppy kibble/day.   First at about 9 a.m.  I put 3/4 c. down and give him 1/2 hour to eat it before taking up the bowl again.  He rarely eats it all.    1 p.m. -  put the bowl down again for 1/2 hour with another 3/4 c.  After he eats I give him water.   Then about 5 p.m.  he gets the rest (sometimes he doesn't even touch this serving) I leave it for 1/2 hr. and that's it for the day.  I give him water on request but not after 7 p.m. (Well...sometimes just a sip).  Sounds like a regular teenager!!!   Hope you find the solution soon!
I would try a small 3rd feeding or give him a few treats. You are lucky-mine wake me at 4-5am every weekend because they are  used to the weekly schedule. Good luck.
I would feed him three times instead of two. I have never had my dogs on a feeding schedule at all and just leave it down in the kitchen to let them graze. Mine are older now and basically only eat at night, but your puppy is hungry. How about putting some kibble in a kong for him in between meals? What kind of food is he getting?
He's on Fromm. We feed him kibble throughout the day while training so he pretty much already has a third meal which is extra food. I wish we could just leave food out. I'm pretty sure if we left the entire bag out he'd eat the entire thing haha.
Our Vern is a big eater, but I leave food out all day and he does not seem to gobble it up. He usually eats only at night and might pick a little through the day. He will be two in January. Both mine eat Fromm and love it. Nancie (and Gracie) supplements her Gracie's food with green beans every night. I don't know at what age she started doing that.
