Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all!  I am pleased to announce the newest addition to our family!  Out precious Charlie (girl) goldendoodle.  Our first week has come with much anxiety however as our little girl keeps regurgitating.  (usually a few hours after she eats and it looks almost the same when she ate it).

I have taken her to the vet  3 times and not sure what to do.  Just today we switched her dog food to one geared more toward a puppy with a sensitive stomach.  So far the vet has done stool tests and a barium exray (for her esophugus) and a regular x ray and all were good.  We've had her 9 days and she has regurgitated about 6 of those days, multiple times each day.  Also a few times she vomited bile.  She had lost a pound but then put it back on.  We tried chicken and rice for a few days, she threw that up also.  She has tons of energy though.

I talked to the breeder, all the other puppies are fine.  She is like a grabage can outside, she eats everything, but we have been diligent about getting it out of her mouth.  If the diet change does not work, not sure what we will do.  The vet is talking about another barium test and possible exploratory surgery!  Yikes!!!!!   Has anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks for any help you might be!

I can't help you with knowledge but I can send my support.  Without naming your breeder, is she reputable? Do you know others who have her dogs?  Does your dog have a health guarantee?
Thanks for the support, she does have a guarentee and they have offered to help with the vet bills or replace the puppy with another one but we ADORE her and would hate to have to give her up.  I don't now anyone else who got their pups but they tell me they are all fine, ours is the only one sick.
So she has a normal esophagus? Did he test for pyloric stenosis? http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2090&aid=468 This does not sound like just a problem with food if it's just sitting in her stomach and the regurgitated with regularity.

her esophogus was normal, the vet mentioned today something about checking for congenital narrowing if her diet does not work, it sounds like pyloric stenosis from the link you just posted.  Thanks so much for taking the time!  Those symptoms sound just like Charlie!!!

You're welcome. Good luck with her.
You might try putting the chicken and rice through your blender so that it's the consistency of baby food.
If her new food does not work I will definately give that a try!  Thanks!
Also, you might want to consider going to a specialist. The university of Pennsylvania is probably the closest vet school near you.
Thanks!
I also don't have advice, but I hope your beautiful puppy gets better soon without having to go through too much with the vet. Keep us posted??
Thanks for your kind words!!!!

I don't really have advice either, other than...if it were me, I'd make sure I had pet insurance.  I would get it ASAP before she is diagnosed with something that could be considered pre-existing, although at this point with the tests you've had run, unfortunately they may consider anything related to this already pre-existing and thus would not cover it.  I'd try to find out because I know how expensive all this could be, especially if there is something wrong.  I know you said you spoke with the breeder, but did the breeder say that this has happened at all before the pup came to you?  I don't know if she would admit that though, even if it did.  I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

Let us know how she is doing on the new food you just started.  What kind is it?  Do you think she is eating too fast or too much?  I don't know what else it could be.  Please keep us posted!!!
