Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all!  I am pleased to announce the newest addition to our family!  Out precious Charlie (girl) goldendoodle.  Our first week has come with much anxiety however as our little girl keeps regurgitating.  (usually a few hours after she eats and it looks almost the same when she ate it).

I have taken her to the vet  3 times and not sure what to do.  Just today we switched her dog food to one geared more toward a puppy with a sensitive stomach.  So far the vet has done stool tests and a barium exray (for her esophugus) and a regular x ray and all were good.  We've had her 9 days and she has regurgitated about 6 of those days, multiple times each day.  Also a few times she vomited bile.  She had lost a pound but then put it back on.  We tried chicken and rice for a few days, she threw that up also.  She has tons of energy though.

I talked to the breeder, all the other puppies are fine.  She is like a grabage can outside, she eats everything, but we have been diligent about getting it out of her mouth.  If the diet change does not work, not sure what we will do.  The vet is talking about another barium test and possible exploratory surgery!  Yikes!!!!!   Has anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks for any help you might be!

ooooh, that would be terrific if she just outgrew it!  Thanks for the good thoughts!

I wish you the best of luck with your adorable Charlie.  I think there is already lots of great advice here and I think the main one is in slowing her down.  You could try spreading the food out on a flat oven sheet and feeding lots of smaller meals.  It may just be an immaturity issue which will get better as she grows.  I would most certainly get in touch with your breeder and ask for a written agreement to ensure that you get sufficient help with any Vet bills as tests will be very expensive.  I suggest you look for full payment of testing and any treatment necessary (lets hope that there is none needed) and I would do this immediately.  Offering to  take the puppy back is such a non- idea.  Who is going to give back a puppy they love???  The food group is simply terrific and there is a huge amount of the best quality advice available there.  Best of luck and I will be awaiting your updates and wishing Charlie well.
Thanks so much for your advice, the vet bills have already started piling up, UGH!  This board is full of great advice and wonderful people!!!  I will keep you posted!

Daze (yorkie) does this about once a year.  She has a very sensitive stomach and when it first started I thought something major was wrong with her.  We did several test and made a lot of trips to the vet, but none of the test showed any medical reason for the vomiting.  My vet said Daze is one of those dogs that when she gets an upset stomach and starts throwing up, it take longer before her stomach settles.  Daze even has a hard time holding water down sometimes.

What works for us is Daze doesn't eat for 12 hours.  Then she gets very lean hamburger and white rice.  Making sure the hamburger has been rinsed good to remove the grease.  I start off feeding her 1 tsp of food every couple of hours as long as she can hold it down.  If she gets sick right away we go back to not eating for up to another 12 hours.  Usually after another 6 hours Daze is able to hold it down.  I keep her on the hamburger and rice diet for at least 3 days.  After the third day I start mixing in her regular food.

Thanks Tina for the great advice.  This group is great and I really appreciate all the help.

one of my cats (the fat one surprise surprise) sometimes eats too fast, then steals the other cats food, then throws up, sometimes immediately, sometimes a few hours later. When Im sick, it tends to affect my stomach and I throw up. Lets hope that Charlie is just sensitive and doesnt have some serious problem

edit OMD just after I typed this, my fat cat (Merry) starts to throw up on my futon. I managed to pick her up and take her out the room to the laminate so its easier to clean up. Sigh, i just jinxed myself :(  Oh and off she goes again, puke clean up time. Wish she had kibble today, but noooooooo its runny canned food today yuk. urgh 3 piles of puke now

Thanks for the advice, it's nice to know that I am not alone, that is what I am hoping, she just has a sensitive stomach.
Hope Charlie is keeping things down.  Rua did a few pukes here and there, but nothing consistant, thank goodness.   I worried about every little thing...so I can only imagine how stressful this might be.  I would look into insurance...we got it for Rua.

Thanks Dori, I worry about everything too, I told the vet I feel like I did when I had my babies, everything seems new again!

I don't have any advice that hasn't already been offered I just want to say I hope Charlie starts keeping things down.  I am sure this must worry you terribly.  Let's hope it isn't anything serious and she will grow out of this.  Please keep posting.
Thanks!!!  She has had a good day, I think some of the tips I have gotten are helping!!!!
