I got up this morning, and had a look at Toby's paw. Sometime during the night he took the whole cutaneous horn off! Disgusting, and almost a little funny. He hadn't touched it until now, and with surgery looming, I guess he decided to take care of it himself. I'll take him in this morning - my guess is that the vet will still want to make sure the margins are gone so it doesn't come back again. I'll keep you posted. Crazy dog.
The vet wanted to take the "base" of the thing out so it doesn't grow back, so Toby is there now. He will need a cone for 3 days or, if that doesn't work, a tube sock with hockey tape around the top.
I taped a sock around Sunny's paw when she got stung by yellowjackets and kept licking it raw. She immediately forgot that it was even there, and flopped on the carpet to go to sleep.
The vet called - it's all done and stitched up. Toby is was loopy after he was neutered, and is the same now, so I can't pick him up just yet. I miss my Tobinator though! It almost makes me want a second dog so I'm never without one.
He did well, but he's not even trying to stand up yet, the vet says, so he's having an overnight stay. They said he will have blankies, food and water, and I will feel much better if I don't see him so "off his game". Can't wait for tomorrow now!
