Well, my DH and I took Rua to the pool for the Doggie Dip!  OMD...we have never seen anything like it!

There were people and dogs everywhere.  It was truly incredible.  I didn't think she would mind the water, as I mentioned below, she has always loved water.  I wasn't sure how she would do in a pool nor around so many dogs.

They had a kiddie pool...so I decided to take her it there first.  I walked her to the deeper end and low and behold, she started dog paddling!  Yeah.  So, we decided to go into the big pool.

In I went and then DH brought Rua to the edge.  She wanted to get to me...so he lowered her down and away she went.  It was incredible.  I couldn't walk backwards fast enough.  She swims like a little fish!  (Great picture, huh?  I was looking into the sun, squinting and had pool water in my eyes!)

She swam all over the pool...I really couldn't keep up with her she could swim so fast.  I would bring her back to the edge of the pool and help her out.  She would stand there with DH, shake off and look at me like 'I want back in'.  So, I backed away and called her...she would get to the edge and look down trying to figure out just how in the heck she was going to get to her Momma.  Well, she finally figured it out on her own...she lept in...just like a little dock diving dog.  OMD...I couldn't believe how far she could jump and she wasn't evening taking a running leap.

Next Sunday, they are doing another 'Doggie Dip' at another pool that is closing for the summer.  Yup, the three of us will be there!

***********************************************************************************************************

Right from the start, Rua has always loved water.  As a little puppy, she would walk into our open shower in the morning, often walking completely around the shower not minding at all that she got sopping wet.  She doesn't mind baths at all and will just stand there while I give her them.  As she got a little bigger, she was able, to my great surprise, to jump up onto the edge of my big corner tub and jump in (while I was in it trying for some relaxing Mommy-only time).

This kept on during last winter and spring to the point that I knew as soon as the weather got warm, I was going to get a pool.  Unfortunately, I just couldn't talk my DH into an in-ground pool...even after telling him it is for the grandkids...wink wink, like Sue (Murphy & Bella) did.  He quickly pointed out we didn't have any children, therefore, we weren't going to get grandkids.  So, I settled for this.

Watching Rua jump over the edge and play in the pool also had me thinking of her being a future "Dock Diving" champion...I remember seeing the beautiful painting that Linda (Toby) did from a Splash Dog competition.  I checked out the happenings in Omaha, and apparently found out that unlike Minnesota (land of 10,000 lakes) there aren't any here in Nebraska!

I really thought about going 3 doors down and asking my neighbors if they would mind if I brought Rua into their pool.  After thinking about it I figure that since we have lived here for over 2 years and never even met them, that might not be a good way to introduce ourselves.

Earlier this week, NE Humane Society posting on Facebook, there was going to be a "Doggie Dip" on Sunday at a pool not far from us.  Apparently, they are closing the pool after Sunday for the season (given we have been having weeks of unbelievable temps, seems kinda early to me) so for $5.00 (goes to Humane Society), your dog and 2 humans can play in the pool.

Now, here comes the True Love part.  I really want to take Rua because I think she would LOVE to play in the pool.  That means, though, I have to get in the pool.  Not that I mind getting into a pool or even a little swimming, but it means wearing a swimsuit in front of PEOPLE.  Considering I am a member of the new Satisfaction Diet Network that Adina started and need to lose 35-40lbs, I think it must be True Love.

Don't you?

Oh you will both have a blast!  Our dog park committee (back when we had a committee) put together a doggy swim event at a local pool at the end of their season a few years ago.  We had a total of 200 dogs come and go over a 4 hour period. It was SO much fun I wished we could have done it every year.  Unfortunately whoever runs that pool caved to complaints from citizens who were clueless about it and freaked out about dogs and germs in THEIR pool.  So we there was no repeat despite it went splendidly and there was not a single incident or problem.
That is too bad they don't do that anymore.  I actually talked my DH into coming to.  That way, I can be in the water and he can be on the pool deck.  I am pretty sure Rua, being the Momma's girl she is, will want to jump in to get to me!  At least, that is what I am hoping.
What we won't do for our "kids"!  Hope you both have a great time swimming!!!!
Thank you!  It IS all about our 'kids'!
Pictures please...ha ha!  I don't do bathing suits any more either.  I will do a sports bra with a tee shirt over and shorts...that's it!!!

I tried on 4 suits.  Took pictures - front, back and side (love tripods and self-timers).  Compared the pictures and picked the best worst of the lot.  LOL.  Not sure they will let me into the pool wearing shirt/shorts.

The burning question as I see it is this - do you and Rua have matching swim suits?  That would be so cute!!!!  Yes we do want photos!
Jane, of course we have matching suits...our birthday suits!  LOL.  But, since I am pretty sure I would be arrested for indecent overexposure, I'll wear a swimsuit.  I'll have DH take a few pictures before he gets in!

Dori...Once again you prove to beautiful Rua just what a Loving Mom you are!!

I know she appreciates Everything that you do for her...and with how much she Loves the water....I'm sure you both will have fun together!

I had the same question as Jane...about the matching swimsuits?  Lol...

You always dress Rua  in the height of fashion... and I'm sure you do too!

Enjoy the time with your girl...

You are the best doodle mom! I agree that no one is looking at you. They are all concerned about how they look, and besides when you are with Rua everyone is looking at her. Have fun!!!
Dori-I'm sure Rua will live it up!! We have something similar here (we never went yet) with our pool but it isn't until Labor Day weekend! I never thought about the swimsuit issue-I'm glad we found the other group but I must say I have a little longer than you. You guys are going to have a blast!!!
Wow, that looks like so much fun. Maybe DH might be more inclined to get that pool now that he's seen how much his little girl loves to swim.
