Our 13 week old puppy just vomited for the first time.  I was doing some training and gave him a pieces of cheese  (which we always use for treats).  He walked outside and threw-up a little puddle that had one tiny chesse treat in what looked like a small puddle of phlem (or metled butter).  Sorry to be graphic.  He hasn't had any food besides cheese treat since breakfast.  I'll call vet tomorrow morning but any advice until then? thanks doodlers.

This is so normal - dogs vomit when they have a bit of an upset tummy.  My puppy Misty ate some grass today and vomited a bit.  Sometimes they eat grass when their tummies are upset to help them vomit.  It's quite normal.  I'm sure others will tell you the same.  If it gets to be lots - all day - tomorrow too - or your puppy is lethargic and not eating - all that - then you have something to call the vet about.

Vomiting is normal as long as it's a single episode and doesn't continue several times in a day.  With puppies if it continues then they should be taken to the vet ASAP as they can dehydrate quickly.

I thought this about the grass too ... until we got Luna.  We think she might be part cow - always eating grass, weeds.. any vegetation she can get her mouth on!  She hasn't once vomited after eating her daily intake of a bushel of plant life.  Yesterday she also stalked and pounced on a cricket (much like a fox pounces on a mouse under the snow) but couldn't find it in the grass.  She eats insects all the time too - doesn't get sick.  She's either part cow or garbage can, not sure!

just keep giving him water.as long as he is peeing you are okay. If he doesn't eat breakfast, I would call the vet.
Ditto, as long as it was an isolated incident you are fine. But you should be feeding 3/4 times per day. I'd suggest 4x a day until 3 months, 3x a day till 4mos. Then you can cut it back to 2x. little puppies need lots of food to grow and supply energy even though their bellies are so little ;-]

It sounds like your puppy might just have an upset stomach.   Has he been vomitting all day or was it just the once?   I'd probably wait to see how he is tomorrow before calling the vet.   Is he drinking?   Peeing and pooping normally  and not diarhea?   Maybe he ingested something that has just upset his tummy.   My puppy Brady (15 wks) vomitted 2 weeks ago in the middle of the night and I found a small pebble.  I was so worried about him.    He then slept through the night and was entirely fine the next day.

Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.  Our pups are only 2 weeks apart in age.   Good luck and hope he/she? is o.k.

ROFL@Luna ... yep, she and Lach are soul-mates!

And agreeing with everyone else - if it's an isolated incident I'd just chalk it up to "sometimes puppies do that." Lachlan does that, like Megan mentioned, if his stomach is empty. If everything else seems normal I wouldn't fret about it. If he's not eating and drinking normally, continues to vomit, and or having runny poo I'd give the vet a ring ... otherwise "sometimes puppies do that."

(For about a month early on I had to give Lach a cracker as soon as he had his morning pee so he had something in his stomach immediately, otherwise he'd toss up bile before he ate his breakfast.)

just wanted to say thanks all!!! he ate his dinner just fine and drank water and has peed twice and is frisky as can be.  we'll c if anything happens tomorrow.  I feed him 2x/day as per our vet's suggestion. He's big already so maybe his stomach is bigger. he may be 18-20 pounds already. we'll find out at vet visit on tuesday.
I find Bergen has this same type of vomit about once a week.  We think its from eating grass/eaves.  Our vet told us that as long as it doesn't happen very much, the puppy is still eating and doesn't look tired not to worry about it.  So whenever this happens we just make sure she gets lots of water and keep a good eye on her and she's always been fine.
Thanks for starting this post. I wanted to ask about vomiting too. Cooper has started doin ga little puke in the middle of the night. It's happened once a night for the past couple of nights. The first night there were some pieces of stick in his puke and then after that it was just clear liquid. I suspect that it's from chewing on sticks and likely grass too (he wants to put EVERYTHING in his mouth). He's still energetic and eats his food so I wasn't sure if this was a cause for concern. Based on what I'm reading it looks pretty normal but I'll keep an eye on things!!! Thanks all.
