Vomiting is normal as long as it's a single episode and doesn't continue several times in a day. With puppies if it continues then they should be taken to the vet ASAP as they can dehydrate quickly.
I thought this about the grass too ... until we got Luna. We think she might be part cow - always eating grass, weeds.. any vegetation she can get her mouth on! She hasn't once vomited after eating her daily intake of a bushel of plant life. Yesterday she also stalked and pounced on a cricket (much like a fox pounces on a mouse under the snow) but couldn't find it in the grass. She eats insects all the time too - doesn't get sick. She's either part cow or garbage can, not sure!
It sounds like your puppy might just have an upset stomach. Has he been vomitting all day or was it just the once? I'd probably wait to see how he is tomorrow before calling the vet. Is he drinking? Peeing and pooping normally and not diarhea? Maybe he ingested something that has just upset his tummy. My puppy Brady (15 wks) vomitted 2 weeks ago in the middle of the night and I found a small pebble. I was so worried about him. He then slept through the night and was entirely fine the next day.
Hopefully it's nothing to worry about. Our pups are only 2 weeks apart in age. Good luck and hope he/she? is o.k.
ROFL@Luna ... yep, she and Lach are soul-mates!
And agreeing with everyone else - if it's an isolated incident I'd just chalk it up to "sometimes puppies do that." Lachlan does that, like Megan mentioned, if his stomach is empty. If everything else seems normal I wouldn't fret about it. If he's not eating and drinking normally, continues to vomit, and or having runny poo I'd give the vet a ring ... otherwise "sometimes puppies do that."
(For about a month early on I had to give Lach a cracker as soon as he had his morning pee so he had something in his stomach immediately, otherwise he'd toss up bile before he ate his breakfast.)
