Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am very surprised at my F1 GD coat changes. I was sure that most doodles get lighter color with age. Camus had red ears when he was 8 weeks old and the rest of him was even light cream color. Now, at 15 weeks, I can see that red hair is coming out on Camus's back and the new hair is shorter and not as soft as his puppy fluffy hair (the fluffy hair seems to go away letting space to the wiry red hair). Did someone have similar situation? How did it end? Is it Camus's retriever blood wining over the poodle one?

I attach 2 photos.

UPD: Camus's mother is a light honey color golden retriever and his father is a standard grey poodle.

Hi,  My Camus is a 24 month, F1 Labradoodle and his coat continues to change.  Here are 2 photos, taken at 12 months and almost 24 months.  His ears and the fur on his back is darker now.

Hi Christine. Yes, I know very well your Camus's photos. :) Thanks for your comment. I hope A. Camus recovered completely from his leg injury.
Hi, Yes his fractured paw has healed completely and he is almost 100% after the gastritis attack!  I'm hoping for a few months (at least) with no new crisis!  Your Camus is adorable - the side-sitting pose is really cute.
I wish  you many many months with no crisis! Be healthy and happy!
It appears his mom's honey shade is coming through, but then again, this could change as he gets older, as well as the texture of his hair. Does he spend much time outdoors? The sun tends to lighten the coat, then darken without occasional exposure. It will be interesting to see what color he ends up over the next several weeks. Pretty boy!
Well, yes I think he is exposed to sun very often. We are in SoCal. That's why I am surprised twice. I was sure that he would be getting white.

Camus's coat looks just like my Hunter's does.  She is also and F1 GD and turned 2 years old in February.  Her coat looks exactly the same texture with the wirey fur to.  She seemed to change between 6 months and 1 year old and then it stayed pretty much the same.  If you look at my pictures you will see the difference :-)  I like the difference in the textures personally it gives them that crazy doodle look :-) LOL

Thank you!!!
