There is a lot of talk about the upcoming Doodle Cruise in October, 2012, that Jane (Rooney &Stuart) is organizing.

People are also asking if their doodles are invited and unfortunately, the cruise is only for humans. Even if doodles were invited, Fudge and Vern would not be going and here are some reasons why:

First of all, what do dogs even bring on a cruise. Vern eats a lot and I would have to bring a huge amount of food. What if we are out to sea and we run out of dog food? I over pack with just my stuff. How would I fit all that food into my suitcase?

Fudge is not a great swimmer and needs a life jacket most of the time. What if they don't have her size on the boat for the ship's pool? If my suitcase is full of my stuff and Vern's food, how am I going to get a life jacket in there too?

Another big worry....what would happen if they went overboard because they saw a fish in the water and decided to try and catch it.

I think this captain would turn the boat around and pick them up in the water:

But, does this guy look like he would:

I cannot even imagine what Vern would do if he saw this big guy in the water:

Or this on deck: (Remember he is afraid of Lawn Chairs)

It would be fun, though, if they could do this in the water:

We have a real problem keeping their water dishes full at night. I am afraid they might resort to this on the cruise:

Also, Fudge and Vern like to party. My husband and I go to bed early and they could sneak out and get in a lot of trouble. We have all heard of shipboard romances and Fudge does like the bad boys. What if this is what she is doing, while we are sleeping:

Don't get me started on Vern. He can be a follower and if he gets mixed up with the wrong crowd  our trip could be ruined:

Finally, we have all heard about pirates on the open seas and I bet Labradoodles could be a hot commodity on the Black Market. I cannot have anything happen to my Doodles by a group of these guys:

So, all things considered, my two doods are staying home where they are safe and sound.

My only complaint is that that I can't go! :) I LOVE cruising! I've only had the pleasure of going on three Disney Cruise Line vacations, but they were great and I would say it was one of my favorite vacations. Those vacations were my kids favorites too. They loved the cruise even more than Disney World.  Part of what made it so wonderful,  was that everybody in the family could do their own thing if they wanted to. The rooms are small, but who needs a big room when you won't even be in it much? You might be surprised to know, that I actually don't like boats and get sea sick on small ones, but do just fine on big cruise ships. I have taken some Dramamine on the Disney Cruise because we did encounter some rough water once, but the Dramamine helped and I was fine. I think the DK cruise is a great idea for DK'ers to meet and get to know one another. It would be great to be on a cruise where you already had a common interest with many of the other passengers. It will be a great way for new friendships to form. I wish I could go!

Angie - it is ONLY 5 nights.  Leave the kiddies with the hubby or better yet grandma.  The interior rooms are going to start at a very low price.  Ya got 14 months to throw the change into the vaca jar.

Money is an obstacle- it has been a rough year with the economy, but my main obstacle is work- I'm a teacher and we aren't allowed to take any days for "fun" during the school year. :) My fun is almost over, and it can't begin again until next June. I hope you guys have fun and I want to hear all about it!

Angie, I am so glad to hear the big ship did not cause you to get sea sick. I am worried about this for my DH and don't want to come back and see a blog about a DK'er husband who spent the whole trip getting sick....LOL! I will remember to pack the Dramamine.
They have those patches that you can wear - it is best to put them on before the ship even leaves.  I have had a couple of rough nights when the seas got a little choppy but nothing to make me sick.  Also because we are booking early if you select a cabin in the CENTER area of the ship then there is less motion than if you are to the front or back.

Yes- we were always told CENTER and LOW floors. It might be a pain to wait for an elevator if you are on a lower floor, but there is less movement there. The higher you go, the more you might feel it if the water is rough. As far as having to wait longer for an elevator, I tried to do the stairs as much as possible anyway. With all of that good food, available at all hours, I needed some extra exercise. :)

I am a very motion sick person. I can't do amusement park rides- sometimes even a carousel will make me dizzy- :). I can only do big airplanes too- and even then, I will get motion sickness if it is rough and I haven't taken Dramamine as a precaution. On the cruise I would take the Dramamine at night so that it was still kind of with me in the morning when I woke up. A lot of people swear by those sea bands, although I've never tried them, and there are medication patches too. Once we took the Disney Cruise around the kid's birthdays (both in Feb). They each chose an excursion. Emily chose swimming with the dolphins while we were in St. Marten. It said you would take a ferry to the island of Anguilla. Being from Michigan and having been to Mackinac Island, I'm thinking that kind of Ferry- the quick painless, 20 or so minute ferry. This was a regular boat ferry (the kind of regular/smallish boats that make me sick). The ride was at least an hour and the water was VERY rough that day with really high waves. It was all I could do to keep from getting sick, and the whole time I kept thinking about how I had to do it all over again to come back!
Way toooooo funny!!!   I just love reading your posts and my DH now knows that when I burst out in uncontrollable laughter, that is the reason why and wants to read it himself!!!
Thanks, Janel!! This is always nice to hear!!
ROFL!!  I laughed out loud reading that and Hunter just stared at me like I was a loon!  I needed a laugh today :-) THANKS LAURIE!
Denise, You are very welcome!!

OMD, I think I might have just pulled an ab muscle laughing at this. I am CRACKING UP!!!! Photoshopped Doodles might be my favourite thing in the whole world.

On a separate note, I agree with all this. Lola was scared of the moon the other night....a cruise ship would absolutely terrify her!!!
