Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
There is a lot of talk about the upcoming Doodle Cruise in October, 2012, that Jane (Rooney &Stuart) is organizing.
People are also asking if their doodles are invited and unfortunately, the cruise is only for humans. Even if doodles were invited, Fudge and Vern would not be going and here are some reasons why:
First of all, what do dogs even bring on a cruise. Vern eats a lot and I would have to bring a huge amount of food. What if we are out to sea and we run out of dog food? I over pack with just my stuff. How would I fit all that food into my suitcase?
Fudge is not a great swimmer and needs a life jacket most of the time. What if they don't have her size on the boat for the ship's pool? If my suitcase is full of my stuff and Vern's food, how am I going to get a life jacket in there too?
Another big worry....what would happen if they went overboard because they saw a fish in the water and decided to try and catch it.
I think this captain would turn the boat around and pick them up in the water:
But, does this guy look like he would:
I cannot even imagine what Vern would do if he saw this big guy in the water:
Or this on deck: (Remember he is afraid of Lawn Chairs)
It would be fun, though, if they could do this in the water:
We have a real problem keeping their water dishes full at night. I am afraid they might resort to this on the cruise:
Also, Fudge and Vern like to party. My husband and I go to bed early and they could sneak out and get in a lot of trouble. We have all heard of shipboard romances and Fudge does like the bad boys. What if this is what she is doing, while we are sleeping:
Don't get me started on Vern. He can be a follower and if he gets mixed up with the wrong crowd our trip could be ruined:
Finally, we have all heard about pirates on the open seas and I bet Labradoodles could be a hot commodity on the Black Market. I cannot have anything happen to my Doodles by a group of these guys:
So, all things considered, my two doods are staying home where they are safe and sound.

Kinda hurts my feelings, jeez. This is work. If you don't want to go then don't but I don't think we need all the negativity.
And in answer to this comment;
"And those smarmy waiters falling over themselves to put your napkin on your lap for you and compliment your dress and practically butter your bread for you, just to get a bigger tip."
Yes they can be a little over the top but I believe on Carnival that we pre pay the tip for all but room service so they don't have much to gain. I will add that these wait staff - are from some very poor countries - these people leave their families for months and months on end to make the money to support them. Go ahead and butter my bread! I've had some really GREAT cabin stewards that will work hard to make you happy every day, bring ice at the same time because they notice that is when you use it, etc. I've had waiters get the illusive dish that they were out of.
Cruising isn't something that I do every year more like every 4 or 5 but it is fun if you have the right mind set. I've never felt confined as you dock and go ashore, but I love those sea days. I've been on Very upscale ships and on Carnival twice before - the fun was the same even if the Carnival wasn't as upscale. I've always been on a ship with tons of outdoor space, a walking track, outside cafes, quiet spots to read a book. Jeeez people.
Nice job making excuses for us, lol. But you're right, we were just off on a tangent and having fun without thinking it might sound negative by the dawn's early light.
But we all love each other, so it's all good. Families can get away with this kind of stuff.
