Cherries

I know the seeds of Cherries are not good for dogs but has anyone had any problem with the actual flesh of the cherry. Jasper has developed a love of them and will not leave you alone until he gets a bit, it's normally only a cheek  but I have noticed he has got hold of a seed, if you drop one he is on to it like a shot and one crunch and it's gone. I love them myself and don't really want to have to stop buying them but I also don't want him to get sick from them. Val and Jasper the vacuum cleaner.

The fruit itself is fine, in moderation of course. I also doubt that a pit or two here or there is going to do much harm; it's small and round and will probably just pass through him. But of course, you do want to prevent him from getting them.

When we had a cherry tree, one year Thule, Rosco, and Cass snuck a ton of them.  Their poops looked like payday candy bars but instead of peanuts...cherry pits.  So my guess is that cherry pits most likely pass through undigested and thus probably have little effect.  The worst of it was at one point Rosco was in our kitchen and trying to jump on Thule when suddenly, barely noticeable to him, he had explosive cherry colored diarrhea.

I agree Ugh. No cherry tree here ours are comming from the US at the moment, out season is at Christmas But I am going to try planting some seeds I've saved.

I once knew a Jack Russell that would just chomp those pits up - he loved them and it never seemed to bother him at all.

LOL on the poop description, Adina.  I love cherries and during the summer, I'd buy a big bag and before I knew it, I'd eat so many of them I would get a cherry tummyache.  But not this year, being on the Satisfaction Diet the past almost 3 weeks, has really decreased my desire to eat mindlessly.

Thanks for this post, we were wondering about cherries, also.  So far, I am getting the doodle-stare-down but she is not getting any fruit.  Have been too afraid since we did not know if they are safe.  No pits, ever for any kind of fruit!  Just don't want to take any chances.
