Those are great ideas! I agree wholeheartedly.
Good advice, Angie!

Crap, so many choices....thanks everyone for your input. I think WE might go with ocean view and forgo the balcony...wondering if later we could upgrade if available, I will talk to Todd on Monday. Heck, maybe I will shoot for balcony,I guess I will have to let DH make the choice since I can't decide.

Clearly we will be getting Passports - don't want to get stuck anywhere just in case.

It really isn't THAT expensive when you consider you have a year to pay for 1/2 of it.

Angie, my mom has that LL Bean bag, I will "borrow" it from her, great idea. Since we will be flying to Miami I won't have any full size bottles.

Lisa, I have been doing some reading this morning and looking at past reviews and one reviewer said she had a balcony and the person in the next balcony over smoked. I think smoking is allowed on the balcony. I know smoke bothers you, so maybe an ocean view is a better choice. I am calling Todd on Monday because I would be sick the entire cruise if I had to inhale smoke coming from the next room and with my luck, that is what will happen :) I wish I asked this question before I booked, because it would have been a deal breaker for me.
Most cruise lines no longer allow smoking anyplace but on Carnival (a lower end line) they do in certain places.  Lets just see if Todd can try to tell us if there is one side of the ship that is considered "none smoking on the balcony" but it is never a guarantee.  Last cruise I was on was a no smoking and yet the people next to us did - I simply cut out the statement in the newsletter that said there was a big fine for doing so and I taped it to their door.  That put a stop to it!!!  Also, if we try to group some cabins together this might provide a buffer.  Dori and I are in 7230 and Laurie is in 6170.  If you have a serious concern - please contact Todd 1st thing Monday morning.
me too... didn't even think about that.. I have COPD and can not be around any type of smoking... maybe he can put us non smokers side by side...
I am on oxygen so I don't think being around a smoke would go over so well for any of us!!!

I'm happy to hear you say that about the passport - I personally will not travel without mine but it really would be highly unlikely for a problem to happen.  So I don't want to make people feel "like they have to" get one.  Because it does cost to get one and if you never thinking you'll leave the country again then it might be a waste.

The very first cruise I ever went on was with my 15 yr old daughter - just she and I.  I knew nothing but did we ever have fun.  And we had an ocean view - a small picture window right out the back of the boat - what a view that was!  Wow.  Never forget that but being way to the very back - man oh man did we get our exercise because it was a hike to get anyplace.  Then there was the noise from the super ginourmous anchor when we'd dock or set sail

That LL Bean bag is just awesome. It is even big enough for a travel size blow dryer. My daughter does dance competitions (and if any of you have seen the Dance Mom show on Lifetime- we are NOT like that. Much of that show is very fake. :)) Anyway, I have one LL Bean bag for all of her dance makeup and hair stuff and I have another that  I keep stocked with shampoo, toothpaste, razors, hair brush and all that stuff so that it is just ready to go when we go away overnight for a dance competition. It is very handy not to have to keep packing that stuff. You can fly with full size bottles- you just can't have them in a carry on. (I pack the LL Bean bag in my checked luggage).

On another note, I know that you guys have talked about trip insurance. I would recommend getting it. When we went we were told that one thing it would help you with is, God forbid, you had to be airlifted off of the ship due to serious illness. On one of our trips, a guy did have to be airlifted off. The captain came on the speaker the following day to apologize for all of the noise during the night. (I never heard it) He said it was from the Emergency Helicopter evacuating somebody. If I remember correctly, the insurance wasn't that much more to add to the cost of the trip and it gives you some peace of mind.

i wondered about dance moms..my new reality show must see..how can they learn a number in one week and compete. I ws on dance team in high school and college and it took a while to get the numbers down..but maybe we were all slow:)
I think we will get a suite if the price is not much more, then we can have a meeting place. we are going to get a port side cabin so if I dont feel like going a shore ( I have COPD) i can watch from the balcony.  If anyone else wants a suite and is a non smoker, maybe we can have a row of suites.

That sounds good to me
