Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
After being on DK for a month or so now, I have noticed all the cute and creative names of our sweet doodles.
I thought it might be fun to see how everyone came up with their doodle names.
After reading "A Dog's Purpose" this summer, I decided to name my puppy Bailey after one of the dog's in the book. He had such a wonderful spirit. I only hope my girl has the same soul as Bailey did in the book.http://www.adogspurpose.com/
And if you haven't read it.....you need too...It's wonderful....Make's you look at animals in a whole new light.
So, how did your dood get's it's name?

I thought my DH was naming him after me (my initials are N. E. D.) and I thought it was so cool - but, no, Ned was named after one of my husband's former students. I have since learned that there was an Australian bandit folk hero named Ned.
Clancy was named Buck at the shelter. Buck is a great name but not for us. My DH and I knew right away that Buck was not going to keep that name - we didn't want to be telling him to quit jumping on someone or yelling for him loudly and being misheard at the dog park. We had a sort of contest here on doodlekisses asking for suggestions. One was Hula which I LOVED and he was Hula for a day and a half, but in the end we selected Clancy after Nancie and Gracie Doodle's son.
We had lots of girly names chosen for Cooper - to match her kitty sisters Merry and Pippin from Lord of the Rings, but she isnt a girly dog at all. She actually had a different name each day for 3 days. None suited her So we went with my maiden name. all 3 of them have boys names but are girls. Then we added a male kitten, who has a boys name - legolas (hes a white lynx siamese so it suits him) lego for short
Cooper will actually answer to Sausage - thats out nickname for her, though the cats sometimes get called it too. in the UK we have a saying "oh you poor sausage" like the saying here in Canada "oh muffin". Cooper was being pathetic one day (I cant remember what she was doing, crying to go play outside probably), and the name stuck
With Chloe-we just ran down a list and DH said no to everyone of them until the end when I said Chloe!!
With Myla-I named her before we got her physically. I saw her and begged and cried and cried until DH gave in to a second dog. "MY LITTLE ANGEL" (since he took Chloe and made her into a daddy's girl!)
Buck is short for Buckminster.
His name is from a character in my kids favorite movie - Ice Age. (the awesome weasel that saves the day)
Oh and his middle name is Bob.
It makes a mother proud to have two boys that came up with the name
BUCK BOB. (i don't know if I want to laugh or cry)
When I was younger I had a Teddy Ruxspin teddy bear that I dragged around everywhere with me. When i saw Teddy--the name just fit. He looks just like a little teddy bear, and its the first thing everyone says when they meet him "aww what a cute little teddy bear. whats his name?" in which i respond with "Teddy"..."oh how fitting!!"
I just want to add that when i first got Teddy, my boyfriend would call him Ted "so that he became a manly dog"...but even he has reverted to just Teddy.
I've always had dogs with "dog like" names, Scruffy, Max, and Wally. I wanted to name my dog with a person name or something a little different. I was between Sloan, Sawyer, Tanner, Hayden, Harvard (my dad's pick), and Blackie (my grandfather's name). Tanner won because as a puppy he was "not all there", as my mom likes to say. He was one of those dogs that didn't really pay attention to anyone or anything, unless there was food involved. It just seemed to fit his personality and now it definitely does!
There was a girl who had him before me for about a week, she had originally named him Bagheera. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool name, its from The Jungle Book but I just can't imagine being at a dog park and yelling BA-GHEER-RAAAA!
