Downtown today I spotted this dog:

Take a guess what you think before you read on...

I first spotted it across the street and had a moment to ponder things before the light turned.  My brain went back and forth with guesses but as I got closer I decided on what it was and approached the owner dude asking "Is that a corded poodle?" He said YES and was super impressed so I told him I thought his dog was the wrong color to be one of the other corded breeds and again he was impressed because apparently nobody ever gets it right!.  LOL...what can I say I was really proud of my dog breed nerdiness...or maybe dorkness since nerd assumes I actually KNOW what I'm talking about.  Teeheee =)

What was your first and last impression before reading the answer?

I've never seen anything like that on a poodle.  Highly stylish.
Looks like a doodle to me.  Shows what I know!  I have never seen or heard of a corded dog in my life!
Ooooh really?  Google these two breeds: Puli and Komondor -- these are the basic breeds that cord as the main hairstyle.  But our very own Joanne (Spud and Starlit) began cording Spud many months ago...she posted a few updates in the grooming group.
Look at Spanish Water Dogs, too.
I thought Corded doodle only because this is DoodleKisses...LOL!

Beep. ALD was my guess because of the size, muzzle, and tail.   I was excited to see this post.  It is cool to see one in person. I do not think I ever have accept for my own. A human  yes, do no.   I do like that the cords are thinner.  I was taught not to do this because of breakage.  These must be older cords?  Dunno.  YOU GO WITH YOURSELF, YOU DOG NERD!

I'm kind of proud now that my first attempt with Spud turned out...  uh hem ( I think Spud looked better--but of course his beauty may be something only a mother could love)and his cords were much younger.

Spud was the cutest corded dog I have ever seen.  He had a puppy look that was so sweet.
Spud is unquestionably cute as the dickens! I loved his corded coat. Looked way better than the Komodors we had living next door 30 years ago.
Thank you Bonnie and Nancy.  I love his shaved look too.  He has such expression.  One good thing about our dogs, no one knows what they are and sometimes, neither do we!  LOL
I'll just show my ignorance.  I thought the cording on a Puli and Komondor was natural.  How do you cord the hair?
Kathy, go to my page. In the photo file cording is a link to a discussion.  I cord one of my doodles.  It is as much work as brushing but.. I have a dog who I just can not brush
Basically, you PROMOTE matting.
