Seems like lots of our doodle friends are going to the vet recently!

Sunny is licking at her front left paw, and she is very very itchy. She has scratched out a dime-sized area of fur on her left ear (her beautiful long blonde ear!) which I have been treating with a hot spot spray that was originally for my dachshund.

I just saw her licking her paw and leg, so I checked her and saw a streak of blood and some tiny black dots on her skin. My first impression is that they are mites of some sort, since I've had a snake that had mites and they were about that size and color. The snake mites were easily treated, so I'm hoping if these are mites that it will be just as simple to get rid of them!

My other dog, the dachshund Reba, is going to the vet too to get her rabies booster. I figured I'd get them both done at the same time!

Ugh... I wish I didn't have to wait 3 hours to take her! I'm going nuts worrying about my poor itchy baby.

****Ok, we just got back from the vet. The vet said that Sunny has a generalized skin infection, and has no idea what caused it. She originally wanted me to just do a topical ointment, but as she shaved the area to make it easier to apply ointment, she changed her mind to oral antibiotics because the sores are EVERYWHERE. They are only on that front foot, but there are so many of them that it would be best to do oral antibiotics. The spots on her ear are probably from the same sort of thing.

Sunny got a cone of shame because she wouldn't stop licking her leg.

And here are some of the spots on her poor leg:

She's not very happy.

Oh, no, not the cone of shame!  I hope she's feeling better soon.
Poor Baby!!!! Give her extra hugs and kisses from us. She looks so pitiful. Hope she feels better soon!!

I took the cone off and put one of my knee socks on her. It goes up to her shoulder and is tight enough that I didn't have to tape it or tie it on there.

Luckily, she's so tired from the vet (it was a BAD DAY for her, poor thing) that she just jumped up in her chair and passed out.

Oh man I wouldn't be happy either, poor baby.

Hope the antibiotic does the trick.

I have this with Oliver.  Everytime we go away, he gets a hot spot, we believe it is caused by seperation aniexty, he starts to itch and scratch and boom a hot spot.  He is well taken care of when we are gone, he is loved and played with, but still this happens.  DH went to the vet today to pick up the antibiotic, and the powder to use,a nd he is wearing the cone of shame too.  He doesn't mind it, he is used to it.  It makes me nuts though.  I had him groomed and bathed before we went a way, and as soon as I picked him up, the itching was there and so was the hot spot.  I took him to the groomers, he had an oatmeal bath, and she cut the hair around the hot spot, I started treating right away, but it is there, and so now he is on meds for a week.  The first time we had this, he had one very bad on his leg, it took months to clear, and we had to keep it bandaged and treated and soaked everyday.  Now that was a nightmare, so now we watch very carefully with him.  This is a dog that goes to be bathed and groomed every 4-6 weeks.  It is making us crazy, but what can u do, just make sure u treat it and watch it carefully.  He was given steroids too, but we don't use that anymore, he was peeing, and not even knowing he was going.  He is better today, so maybe by the end of next week we will have the cone off...Good luck, and I feel for u I really do, it is not fun for sure.

Sunny absolutely doesn't understand the cone of shame. She jumped behind a bunch of potted plants in my greenhouse like she usually does, then ran full speed between two pots, and her cone got stuck. She just sat down and looked at me until I came and moved the plants so she could get out.

She also attempted to go out the dog door, which did not work.

Ohhhh, poor Sunny, look at that face and those eyes!  Bless her sweet doodle heart.
