My old chow chow Butter's health has been declining over the summer. ( 16 & 1/2 years old) I felt like he was waiting for one of my daughters to come home from her summer job in Ohio. She came home on 8/25, and we took him to the vet. Since then, he perked back up, ate turkey and rice like a champ, went outside and was happy again. My daughter left back for college late sunday afternoon, happy to see him doing well again. Monday evening, he brought back all of his dinner, and since then, he is going back down. He woke up early this morning moaning and has been lethergic all morning. We are taking him back to see Dr. Sweeney this afternoon, but the sun may be setting. I am so sad.

He has been with us all these years and I feel like he helped me with my kids, and  protected us. They were all little kids then... He is such a strong dog, with pride and dignity.

I am so sorry to hear about little Butter.  He was such a part of our Doodle Family even though he was not a Doodle.  There are no words I can say to take away the pain and sadness  you are feeling.  We all have to experience it at some time in our lives and it is never easy and something one never forgets.  Think of all the wonderful times and happiness he brought you and your family.  He truly was a special dog!
So sorry to hear of Butter's passing.  My thoughts are with you.....
Sorry to hear such sad news. Love and prayers to you and your family.
So sorry to hear this news.  Although 16 1/2 is a lot of years for our fur kids, it's never long enough.  How nice that his family was with him when he passed.  Take care.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayer. We are taking him to crematory this morning.
I'm so sorry for your loss.  It must be comforting to know that he passed feeling loved and secure with his family embracing him.
So sorry to hear about Butter.  You can be consoled by the fact that he got to see your daughter and she got to see him during his last days.  It's hard to realize that dog's lives are so much shorter than ours, but the good part of that is that you get to share your lives with so many dogs during your lifetime.  I'm glad your son got to be with her for her final moments.
I'm so sorry for your loss, but find comfort in the fact that he was at home and chose the time on his own.  It is amazing how that happens many times once you make the decision that it is time.  The same thing happened to our little Toy Poodle.  We said if she made it through the night we were taking her 1st thing in the morning, but she passed about 5 am.  Hopefully all of the wonderful memories that you have of Butters will get you through these tough days ahead.  Our thoughts are with you.
What a perfect way to end such a wonderful life,no tests and treatments, no pain or suffering, in the arms of someone you helped raise, love and protect your whole life. He ended his life like he lived it, with pride and dignity. How blessed for all of you to have had 16 1/2 years with him. My thoughts are with you all.
Kyoko, I am so sorry for your loss.  Your love for him is a treasure, as was his love for you.  Hold the momory of his love close and cherish it whenever you feel sad.
Take comfort in knowing that he was where he wanted to be, with his family.  It won't make the pain any less, but you will always know that you did not have to make that "decision" we all hate, when it comes to a sick or elderly pet.  They are our family....  We grieve just as hard.  My thoughts are with you..
So sad for you and your family! Sending hugs foe comfort!
