Does your Dood like the heat?

I am curious to know how your dood’s do in the heat. I know Stella hates the heat, even as a tiny puppy in winter I wanted to keep her warm on the ride home. She quickly let me know she didn’t like it that warm and that she preferred a cooler temp in the car…. even cooler than I keep it and I hate the heat too! I keep Stella’s coat short in hopes that she won’t get so hot. But, I was wondering if others doodles have the same dislike for the heat?

Rosco has been a hot bodied dog since puppyhood too! He didn't use doggy beds and preferred to lie on the cool hard wood or vinyl kitchen floor. Once as a pup I put a towel down on the couch (no dogs on couches here) and picked him up to nap with me and 1 minute later he had squirmed away for a cool spot on the floor again. I haven't even used cushions or blankets in his crate except on rare occasions because he doesn't need them.

And as for walks...fuhggedaboudit if it's past 75 degrees...he's a slowwwww poke in the heat.

If we don't keep the A/C on in the bedroom he'll wake us up to go out (we assume it's a potty need) and he'll walk out onto the concrete path in the backyard, flop over and lie down to cool off.

Whilst everybody from warmer climes was marvelling at how my dog could get so very muddy on his walks, we were swamped with near torrential rain, here in Vancouver BC! Well, I live at the bottom of a mountain, so it's cool and wet and muddy most of the year...most of the mud ending up on Finn, which is why it's such a shock for him now that the weather's suddenly turned very hot. He doesn't know what to do with himself! He usually trots along happily on his walk for an hour and a half or more, however lately he's been flopping out in shady spots on short trips 'round the block! And at the beach he sits in the shade in a self-dug hole and pants whilst the other doggies leap around. On top of that he's as freckly as a Chinese Crested Tea-Cup Pup, he even has freckles in his mouth, so I have to be careful of his delicate skin! If he swims his fur simply disappears and he looks totally starkers, it's rude! In July we're going to Tofino. I'm worrying about the journey. What if he gets over-heated in the car, what if he gets over-heated in the car on the ferry, (he's not allowed on deck). What if we need to stop to eat, etc etc...What do you do with Stella Belinda, if you need to leave her in the car? I've heard dogs can over-heat in minutes flat! It's a worry when you can't ake them with you.
Now Finn's flopped out on the sofa, (post-BBQ) enjoying a warm summer breeze...ah, it's a dog's life!

I haven't had to come across this problem just yet. One of us usually waits in the car with Stella while the other goes in to the store if it is necessary. I do take her to work with me most days and she is in the AC the whole time (exception of potty breaks and play breaks of course). We only live a few miles from work and you can see from the pictures she loves to hang her head out the window. She also love being outside... just clearly uncomfortable. I guess that is the price you pay for what you love...huh?

Peanut and Max will get real lazy in the heat , thus I hose them down to keep them cool then take them for a good run out back. Once inside I pull down some shades, put 3 ceiling fans on high setting, they lie under them happily. if they're cool enough they wrestle but if the temps to up to 84 degrees or higher they move like sloths

Sunny does terrible in the heat. I am happy to hear it is not just her. I have to admit that she is doing a lot better since getting her "summer cut". As a matter of fact the difference after getting almost scalped was remarkable. That said, here in Memphis, she still hates the heat only not quite as much now.

No, my Bella Daisy does not like the heat. However, living in the South, she still chooses several times a day to go out and play. I just have to make sure she has plenty of water and I bring her inside to cool off on the hardwood floors in the AC between outings. As others posted, she will not use a cushion in her crate. When I would put one in she just scoots it to the side so now she just goes bare floor.

Nope! Sadie doesn't like the heat at all. She also doesn't like heavy rain. She didn't mind the cold or snow at all in the winter though!

I can't what to see what Stella does with the snow. Hopefully we will get enough for her to play in next year.

Yes, I have noticed Giada does not like the heat. Infact she will find the coolest spot in the house to lay--on the register while the air is blowing, or on the cool tile floor. She also will sit out on our deck for the longest time in the winter.

Jordan hates the heat! She will lay in front of our floor fan to keep cool. She also will sleep on the floor insted of her dog bed or my bed.(the know they can sleep on the bed when Brian is not home)
Sometimes I will mist her down, like today we are in the 90's.
It's the Genetics I guess.

My swany hates the heat!! thank gosh we live on the coast..... we dont have too many hot days... But yea hes a different dog i n the heat....

My Goldendoodle, Holly, who is six months old doesn't like the heat and doesn't do well when it is hot. We have given her a shorter trim (which has helped a little) and we keep her indoors in air conditioned comfort during the hot portions of the day (which helps a lot). Unfortunately, although Holly doesn't like heat, she doesn't like our pool either. We are slowly coaxing her into the pool and she has evolved to the point where she is not actively scrambling to get out of the water if we gently hold her. However, if we are not holding her -she is out of the pool in a flash. Holly likes to sleep on our cool tile floors and has loved eating ice cubes since she was a little puppy...
