My mom is moving out of my house in about two weeks. Molly will be about 17 weeks when my mom moves. She is a total outdoor loving puppy. She will stay outside and play in my backyard for as long as we let her. She will stay by herself. She could care less, She loves to chew sticks, smell the grass, go through tunnels, dig just about anything outside and she is totally happy!!!

When we make her come in, she will play in her play pen or the kitchen but she is always ringing the bell to go outside...

My mom is moving to Sun City, which is a gated community. She is not allowed to have a fence up. There are alligators galore there. The only option for free running is the dog park, My mom is not a fan of the dog park for a lot of reasons but mostly out of fear of other dogs.

Since Molly has a lot of energy and still needs to romp and play, what do you guys do that do not have a fence and choose not to use the dog park often as a means to get exercise in. She will do some walking with her on a leash.

My mom is 70 so sitting on the floor all day with her is not the easiest of things to do.

Any ideas I can give to her?

Before we had a fence, we had a nearby park that had a fenced in tennis court. As long as nobody was there, I would take them inside, close the gates, and let them run. I also took them for LOTS of walks each day and did doggie daycare.

Thanks Laurie, I just researched some great or potentially great doggie day cares not to far from my mom's house. Hilton Head is very dog friendly so I thought we might be able to find one...The one I found allows for half days so we can bring her in the morning, she would be paired up with max of four dogs and she would be able to play and burn off some puppy energy too.

I think that is good for my mom, who I know is going to need a break some days, So while my mom goes out shopping or does some errands Molly can burn off energy, I also agree after a certain age they don't need daycare anymore, Jack stopped around two and now prefers to be home.

I love the tennis court idea. My tennis courts include a $120 fine for bringing your dog inside. I was so hoping Sophie Bear could play tennis with me, but not so much. I don't think she'd be very good at the back hand anyway.

I am glad I dont have anything of the sort to worry about. No gators,no bears...he is safe as a church. This is the first time I can honestly say I am glad I dont live in a warmer climate.

Hope you find a solution to your problem:)

I live in Australia and I thought we were supposed to have scarey snakes and spiders around but alligators and bears!!!!!!  Sounds like the Wizard of Oz..... lions and tigers and bears oh my!!!!  I actually reread the post thinking was the word alligator being used for something else....lol....

Good Luck!!

I started a group for apartment dwelling doodles (similar yard issues), good place to ask questions or share experiences.
