What a pretty "naked Boy" you have...  I don't know how to care for their coats but he is adorable hairy or naked ; )

PS beautiful background looks so peaceful!

No Way!  I would not be happy at all if they did that to mine.  Was he that bad that it warranted a full shave.  And his poor tail......it looks like a lion tail and not a doodle tail.  Poor nakey Ben.

I brush my girls every few days.  Ethel gets matts, Lucy does not.  Their hair is quiet different.  At most they have cut really short under their arms where it matts easy, and a little shorter around the neck because the collars make is matt.

Thank you Jane, that makes complete sense...he only had matts under his arms.....I think I am going to clip that silly Dr. Seuss tail....like it waves in my face to remind me to comb him every 5 minutes.  Do you use a special brush?  We have the metal comb and had been using it on matts.  Ugh.
I use a metal rack, a slicker brush and I have a special tool for cutting out matts.  Not sure of the proper name, but it looks like a four pronged pic, with sharp blades on one side.  I got it at Petco.
"like it waves in my face to remind me to comb him every 5 minutes"--LOL! Poor Ben! And poor Kathleen! What a beautiful Dood and backyard!
Kathleen, Join the grooming group. There is a wealth of information there! Line brushing is very important and you can learn how in that group. Poor Buddy Ben.

This brush works good on matts. If the matts are to big and hard use thinning shears you will never notice you cut a matt out.

Wow, this must have been quite a shock!  Ben is a beautiful Doodle...and that coat will grow back.  Isn't it amazing how skinny they look without all that hair?
I can't stop looking at both pictures.  He does not look like the same dog.  As other have said, it will grow back.  I keep the hair on their bodies at 1 1/2 inches and little longer on their legs and head and I don't let them cut the tail at all.

Your guy is Precious!   I'd want to know about why they shaved him, totally, without your directions to take him all the way down.  It surely changes his look, but truly, I don't think it's all bad!  His little tail might need some adjustments, to fit in with his body...But that not a biggie!  I do love that you can see his facial expression better.  He is so sweet looking, I don't think he could look bad if you tried!

He won't know the difference if you act like all is the same.  NO mirrors, though. He might think he has been dressed up, early, as another Doodle, for Halloween.   Then he might decide to run away with the Naked Doodle group!  :)

He plays with the "other dog" in the reflection of our french doors, and this morning he barked at him!  Oops !..and yes, we have told him how "beautiful" he looks, and even extra cookies for him!  Ok, off to Petco..thank you Jane...I don't think I will need the grooming things for a few days though....
