Hi all,

I noticed a very loose poop yesterday with Lola, but didn't think much of it since it's been an up and down situation for months now....but since yesterday evening, she needed to go out every hour or hour and a half, and its not good. It's past the loose category, and very runny. I was up with her all night, and she just woke me up again about 5 min ago. It seems to be an emergency situation every time too, she runs to the back door, and then runs to a spot in the backyard to do her business. It doesn't seem to be getting any better, and I don't know what I should do. She seems to be fine otherwise...she's eating, drinking, wagging...her usual perky self. I can't think of what this could be...she hasn't really eaten anything (that I know of) out of the ordinary. Any ideas??

I called our vet just now and asked them to call us first thing in the morning. I'm glad our vet is open Saturday mornings!!! We'll get it all figured out tomorrow!

I totally agree with Karen about the Panacur. I have been through several bouts of Giardia or some unknown parasite infection with my two and Panacur is the only effective med. I like Albon as well and have asked for both if the first round of Panacur didn;t work and they get sick again right after the first course is done. That has always done it for them.

Some meds can be bought at your own pharamacy, just ask for a script, not sure about Panacur or Albon. Metronidazole can be however, it's Flagyl.  It would be worth a call to  your pharamcy to ask, unless Karen knows.

I don't, but F might.

Sorry I don't . I did once , when Calla was young give her half an immodium once or twice and it worked like a charm, Along with chicken and rice. I'd do that and see if it helps since this is a recent onset.

I have done immodium as well, at least stops the worry of dehydration. Ofcourse doesn't solve the problem. Pumpkin, chix and rice will at least make her feel better. Too bad the yogurt doesn't work, as it is good if she will need antibiotics.
Has anyone mentioned Pepto Bismol?  That gross pink stuff in the bottle?  It works!  Our trainer swears by it, but I don't recall the instructions he gave.  I remember not feeding for the first day, but that's about it.  Try Googling it and I bet there is information on it.
Hey, everyone!!! Thanks for all your help over the past crazy few days! I got no sleep on Thursday and Friday night, and then yesterday morning we got a morning appt with our vet, where he took a stool sample, and gave us Metronidazole (I know, Karen, I know!!!! But I was just too tired to fight him about it!!!) by the time we got to the vet, Lola seemed back to normal...firmer stools, and much less urgency. As planned, we went to my FIL's house for the day (2hr drive), an Lola's poop firmed up even more....in fact, she only went twice all day! (as opposed to twice in 5min the night before!!) We got home last night at almost midnight...I was a complete zombie at this point! Because of Lola's big day of running around and acting crazy all day yesterday, she's pooped [no pun intended :)] this morning....so we'll see how the rest of the day fares. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks everyone for all your help and great advice!
I'm glad Lola's better. If the popp was firming up on its own, chances are it isn't giardia (because that doesn't get better by itself), so hopefully the metro will be enough for whatever kind of little bug this was.
