Thought maybe people would like to send in photos that did not come out right and the photo group could help out with.

I had posted this in the September blurry assignment section.  I took this picture using my tripod and in aperture priority.  I used F4.5 I believe.  Was wondering what I did wrong because it came out blurry.  The moon was casting an orange glow but also thought maybe there is some way to help with the color.

I was disappointed but maybe will learn from this with a lot of help from the group.  Thanks.

Did you use a remote trigger?

No I didn't.  I thought that might be part of the problem.

It looks to me as though you have camera shake from plunging the shutter button by hand. The reason I came to this conclusion is that the blur seems to be in a vertical motion as evidenced in the moons elongation. Since the blur is egg shaped it tells me it was plunging the shutter button.

Very observant, Richard! Good eye.
Thanks, but the name is Raymond.
Yes I did. Should you always use the remote trigger?
absolutely when on a tripod. any camera shake especially with longer exposures will get translated to the lens.

Using the self-timer is a great way to do it. My camera has an option for a 2 second timer, which is meant for this very purpose.

You can buy triggers on ebay from china for ~2 bucks with shipping (!!) i love mine

There may be camera shake involved but, I'd bet that the major culprit was the movement of the sailboat in the water.
