The NY Botanical Garden, Orchid Show

The New York Botanical Garden is one of the wonders of New York City. It is hard to believe that 250 acres of great garden collections, old growth forest and a magnificent conservatory exist in the city. But the several zoos, especially the Bronx Zoo, Central Park among many parks, and the Hudson River are among nature lover's bounty in NY.

The orchid show is displayed every year and this year it was as spectacular as ever. All different kinds of orchids, in amazing shapes, sizes and colors are displayed. The theme was Orchids on Broadway and there was show music playing in the background. It is hard to describe the abundance of blooms.

The conservatory where outside fruit trees were blooming along with bulbs. Inside there were thousands of orchids displayed among the permanent collection. It really was breathtaking.

Oh my gosh, F, as much as you love flowers and plants you must have been positively giddy walking through this botanical paradise! My mother in law loves orchids. I sure wish I could take her to this!

It truly is unbelievable. Orchids are not my favorites but some of these were so special. Then the have some greens, brownish ones--not my thing. But the whole thing was an extravaganza.  I'm sure you could find a book on the exhibit. They have a great shop at the NYBG. I bought a membership and hope to go more often but we'll see. They don't allow dogs on the grounds : (

This is great F. My daughter lives in NYC. She loves orchids.  She'll have to go to this somtime.

I think this show is over toward the end of the month but they have one every year.
