Is there another pumpkin shortage this year? I have been looking for pumpkin all year, in the hopes it just pops up at my local stores, and nothing so far until today. But only 4 cans on the shelf. Maybe there are a lot more dog owners using pumpkin than there are bakers out there and they have been waiting too.

So if you value a can of pumpkin when you have a doodle with an upset tummy or bowels, like I do, start looking for it on your grocery shelves and stocking up. I have about 20 cans by last Dec. and I am just now down to my last 2. So that gave me a good idea of how much I will need to keep 2 doodles supplied for the whole year.

Good luck.

Thanks Andrea, yes, I could make my own, in all my spare time. LOL, Besides all the other food I cook for them, (sweet potatoe treats are baking as I write this) I don't even cook for DH or myself anymore. Thanks for the suggestion. Did you can them or freeze them after baking? Just curious.

According to Libby's, there is no shortage this year, and the canned pumpkin should be hitting the shelves very soon:

Living here in Illinois, I can always find canned pumpkin...and JD won't touch it. One of life's little ironies.

I bought several cans at Target yesterday and they seemed to have plenty.  Lucky I don't have to use it very often but I bought a few cans to have on hand just in case.
My Jack won't touch it either.. Not for a million treats...
My two both love it. Always have given it too them too, even when they don't "need" it. Too bad Jack doesn't like because it works very well here.
Thanks Karen, I just got a minute to read the link. Sounds promising. TOo bad your Jack doesn't like it either. What is it with Jacks and pumpkins? Do they think they are related to Jack-O-Lanterns???  haha. Sorry, corny I know.
I thought it was pretty funny. But I'm from the Midwest, everything's "corny" here!
I order mine online at Amazon (go DK!) It ships free if you buy $25 worth of stuff. I always do.
That would be my last resort but I did see that posted last year too. Thanks
Thanks for the tip!
Last year I bought 30 cans of canned pumpkin based on word of a pumpkin shortage.  I am pretty sure I have 28 cans left!  Good thing Rua hasn't needed much.  I should make her some "pumpsicles"...just for variety.
It really is a good thing she hasn't needed it. You can just add some to her food every now and then until it;s gone. Don;t know what the shelf life is, but at the rate you're using it now, those 28 cans will last you another 14 years!!!
