I think I've stumbled onto something to really get Lucy enthusiastic about mealtime. Up till now, 1 meal is all I could get her to eat, and I worried about it being such a large meal for 1 feeding. To get her to eat that one meal in it's entirety I mixed a tablespoon of Fromm's canned Shredded Chicken into her kibble (also Fromm's). A couple weeks ago we visited a new holistic pet supply store that opened just a mile away, and I talked to the owners and a food rep that was there for the day. I know better than to just take a store rep's word on dog food, but I've learned how to read food labels and spot a not so good dog food. Anyway, to make a long story short, I bought a bag of Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw food in the Beef Dinner variety (which as it turned out is on DK's Recommended Brands list, under 'Raw Foods'). I bought it with the intention of sprinkling 1/4 to 1/2 of 1 'patty' into Lucy's food, and, if it worked to get her to eat, I'd divide her 1 large meal into 2 smaller meals.

It worked GREAT to get her to eat. Now she LICKS the food bowl after the meal! She never did that before. I've successfully switched her to 2 smaller meals a day and she really looks forward to mealtimes now. Stella and Chewy's Freeze Dried dinners are safer to handle than regular raw foods and can be left out in the resealable bag (they carry a frozen raw food as well). Just thought I'd pass this along to others here that have picky eaters. Give Stella and Chewy's a try! Here's a link to their website:

I had posted the same thing a few months ago! We get the Stella and Chewy's lamb dinners, and break one over the bowl of kibble, and Milo eats like an enthusiastic puppy! We wonder if we have fed him because the bowl is licked clean till it shines! Since he only gets one a meal, it is not as expensive as using it as an entire meal.
It really is an incredible discovery, isn't it? We cut costs further by only using 1/4 patty per meal (twice a day), and Lucy still eats like there's no tomorrow. I do add a TBLS or 2 of water to integrate the soft canned food, freezed dried food and kibble so maybe that helps to distribute the Stella and Chewy's flavor throughout.

Its good to hear positive testimony of a dog that's on Stella and Chewy's exclusively.

I have a few questions... Do you mean wholesalepet.com (rather than wholesalepets.com)? I checked out the former website and it is only intended for qualified retailers of pet supplies. How do you get around that? If you really did mean wholesalepets.com, that redirected me to cheapdrugs.com. Weird.

Since we use such a small portion per meal its not as expensive as it could be if using the patties exclusively (which, according to Stella and Chewy's online food calculator would be a whopping 11.5 patties for a dog Lucy's size!).

Since Lucy loves the Beef dinner I'm not going to mess with a good thing. However, if/when she shows signs of tiring of it I'll make a switch to a different flavor. Thanks for your input!

I haven't tried Stella&Chewys, but I have been adding a small amount of honest kitchen to her Fromm. Now Sadie licks her bowl clean & returns to make sure she hasn't left anything behind.
Whatever works to get a picky eater to eat.. its funny how just seeing your doodle eat can bring a smile to your face :)
