Is your doodle a good judge of character?

Jack is the most easy going, loving dog. He loves people, he loves to be pet by just about anyone, he will let a child pull on him, squeeze him and do just about anything.

 

Saturday we went to a Halloween party, there were a ton of people and children there all wearing scary masks.. The kids got right up in Jacks face, though the only thing he could see was the scary mask, he just liked the masks like he would lick any kids face... He was not spooked or scared in the least.

 

Tonight I had to go back to  Lowe's for the third time today... (getting ready for the handy man to come and do a million things for me) anyway, Jack loves Lowe's and they love him, We walked in and several people who work there who have never seen him before went right up to him and hugged him, petted him etc.. They never ask if it is okay, they just do it.. but I know he is fine with people.

 

Tonight as we were leaving, a man came up to Jack, he was not any different then any other man that Jack has been around in appearance, nothing out of the ordinary. This man got five feet from Jack and Jack who was waiting in line with me.. started barking and growling.... I quickly corrected him which is my knee jerk reaction thing to do.. Jack was just pet by about six different men in the store and was fine..

 

All of a sudden this man that Jack was growling/barking at opened his silly mouth and started acting like an idiot.,,, He may have been drunk I am not sure, it was Lowes and it was late... The guy actually started teasing Jack, throwing chocolate candy on the floor asking him if he wanted it.. I picked Jack up in my arms but this guy was being such a doof, he was saying cookie cookie cookie to him.

 

I told him to not say that to my dog unless he actually had a dog cookie for him and to Not tease him . He continued to act like an idiot but I was in the middle of being rung up so I couldn't leave, Jack was in my arms and he was being quiet because I originally told him to..

 

Anyway, my question is how did Jack know he was a jerk before the guy was even near us or opened his mouth>> Geeze I wish I would have had Jack in my early 20's he could have saved me a lot of heart ache with Jerks..

 

I quickly in front of the guy told Jack that he was a good boy and I was sorry for making him stop barking.. I told the guy to be quiet please and leave my dog alone, I said no wonder he barked at you, he could tell you were not a nice person and were going to tease him.. The guy was so obnoxious and continued with the word cookie over and over again.,.

 

Jack very rarely barks at people but when he does it is looking like more and more he has good reason

 

Anyway, is your doodle a good judge of character too?

Our F1 GD, Kachi (who is 3 yrs old) has been frustrating us with his intuitive trait for a couple of years now.  Some people he loves right away, others- not so much. I used to say he was a real good judge of character until he growled at my brother-twice!! Now, I keep that comment to myself! But I do have to say that  quite a few of the people that Kachi has either barked at, or growled at, (and a time or two has actually air snapped to get them to back up) have all been kind of loud, boisterous, and domineering.  Even though he has never bitten anyone, the fact that he'll do the air snap thing to get them to move back, is frightening. Not to mention, so disappointing.  He is such a cute, fluffy thing, people just naturally want to come up and pet him!  And he is such a great dog in every other way. But he is who he is, and the vet says he probably won't change.  So consequently, we can never be TOO careful!  Because we don't know what he's thinking,  we have to tell ALL strangers to please not try to pet him.

But then there is our Halle...She never met a stranger, she didn't want to lick to death!

Wow - good for Jack!

 Zach is cautious with dogs, but so far he loves every human he has encountered. I don't know if he just has not yet encountered a jerk or he has no filters - he is still young and  he has time to learn that all humans are not wonderful - although they have all been pretty wonderful to him!!! It is good to be a big cute puppy!
