I did something stupid ... not sure who else to ask...should I see a doctor?

This is really dumb and has nothing at all to do with doodles, dogs, pets of any kind. It has to do with me being an idiot.

I just hit my head, really hard. I wacked it against the corner of the cupboard door in the kitchen when I got up from putting the dog food in the bowl (ok, I knew I could tie in the doodles). anyway, it really hurts, it's like pulsating sharp pain. It hasn't stopped for about 30 minutes. The pain is spreading and I'm getting a headache and it hurts when I touch the spot. I've never hit my head this hard. I googled around for answers but it seems like there are a lot of internet forums with really stupid and unreliable advice. So, my question is, do I have a concussion or something or am I over reacting?

Am I supposed to go to bed and sleep it off or keep myself awake in case I never wake up and my doodles end up eating my dead body. I better show them where the kibble is just in case...

Sorry for the odd question but I tried calling a couple of people and nobody is around. i figure there are a bunch of nurses and moms on the site who might know if I should wait it out or go see a doctor ...

Also, I had just poured myself a glass of wine. Do I drink it to numb the pain or do I avoid it incase I'm about to have an anurysm (sp??) or stroke or something? Just wondering ...

...I'm leaning towards drinking the wine.

You go Chelsea!   I have a question though.  Both of my son's have had too many concussions.   Knocked out, vomiting, etc.  Each one has been hospitalized once for head injuries.  One even had a LONG term recovery over a period of months with mood swings etc.   Just giving some background info before I ask.

So my question--they told me NOT to worry about the sleep.  If they are tired, let them sleep.  In the hospital, they let them both sleep. That they no longer follow that as one of the instructions.   Do they or have they gone back to no sleep?

Is it because Sherri lives alone and no one to periodically check up on her?   Or have they changed protocol again?   Just asking in case of the next time.

( CPR changes at least every other year--just wondering if the protocol for concussions has changed again since my last experience)

Sherri--no alcohol. excedrin or aspirin.  Advil is  not a blood thinner. That one might be okay

Sorry Joanne, but Advil( just a brand name for Ibuprofen) is a blood thinner all of the NSAID (non-steroidal anti inflammatories)are. If you let someone who has a head injury go to sleep you have to wake them up every hour or so to make sure that you can. I work in a children`s hospital, we let them sleep but wake them every hour.

I was told to set my alarm since there's nobody to wake me up. I'm not sure how that will help...

I need to train my doodles to handle head trauma.

Thanks Donna.  That was my question.  Makes sense.  As for the Advil, the OB/GYN's used to say, Aspirin for cramps and Advil to slow.  This is what they told me.  Not saying~ Just  Asking.  Thanks for the info.  I need a refresher. Must be why I no longer work in medical environments   :)  thank goodness

Doesn't make much sense to me. they both can increase bleeding.

Not really blood thinners per se but they do interfere with clotting. Sorry to be technical, it's my nature : )

True, but the end result is the same. :0)

oh my,i'm in great hands! Thanks for the expert advice. I do feel a little dizzy and cloudy in the head but not a lot. I thik it's normal. i'll dig up some tylenol, all i can find is ibuprofen.

Head Injury Warning Signs
These are some common head injury warning signs that may indicate greater problems neurologically.

1. Acting strangely

2. Saying things that you wouldn’t normally say

3. Fainting

4 Increased drowsiness or an inability to keep your eyes open

5. Vomiting on more than one occasion after a head injury

6. Amnesia (difficulty remembering events)

7. Feeling clumsy or having difficulty moving any body part

8. Blurred vission

9. Slurred speech

10. Bleeding or fluid leakage from the ear or nose (this may be CSF – cerebral spinal fluid)

11. Unable to recognize friends or family

12. A constant headache

Do not go to sleep and do not drink the wine, if the pain continues, worsens or does not lessen over the next hour or so I would go see a doctor. You probably have some bleeding under the skin but it is better to be safe than sorry. I have seen lots of head injuries in children and vomiting is the most common symptom. If you need to go to the ER have a friend drive you. Ditto on the no asprin, advil, motrin or aleve. Take tylenol if you have to take something but it is best to not take anything as it can mask any symtoms you may be having. Take care and let us know how you are.

good call Donna, I will stop looking for that tylenol. All I found so far was a tylenol 3 anyway, and that will just make me sleepy.

Hope you feel better, I bet that hurts. I've hit them before but not that hard. Keep us posted.
