Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was wondering if anyone has a labradoodle that is actually hypoallergenic.Or have they been breed back to a poodle so much that they might as well be a poodle.Multi-gen.No offence to anyone.i just dont want to own a poodle.Ive become allergic to my F1b labradoodle but i wont give her up for anything. She sheds a fair amount of fur and dander. and i have to clean my house like its a hospital and do a lot of other things to keep my allergies under control.Im even going to buy a couple of air purifiers.                         As some of you may know i have a pug.How you say with having allergies. He is unique. He doesnt have an undercoat that the pugs always have.He also sheds very little dander and he is of small size which helps.I got lucky there. But my doodle is another thing. My pug is 9 years old and i dont wish him gone of course but i ve read that the best breeders have a 3 to 4 year waiting list.So i better get looking for a real hypoallergenic labradoodle now.Is there such a thing out there? My ex breeder sure thought she had the most hypoallergenic doodles in the land as do most doodle breeders i think.Who can you trust?I sure cant have 2 doodles with high dander running around the house. That would kill me.i thought of getting a whoodle.Cross between a soft coated wheaten and a poodle because your guaranteed a low dander non shedding dog but i dont like terriers all that much.Even thought they say soft coated wheatens are the most laid back of all the terriers.Or should i just get a whoodle and not chance it with another labradoodle?

First, are you sure that it is dog hair that  you are allergic to?  Dogs with Poodle type coats tend to bring lots of dust and plant matter into the home.  Trimming a dog very short (#7 blade) can help mitigate this.

Next, Wheaten?  Pretty dogs but they are still terriers and you have understand what that means.   I love terriers but they can be tenacious to a fault.  I'm not sure that terrier and calm can ever be used in the same sentence.  Also... watch out for kidney issues.  Whoodle?  What is the draw?  Soft Coateds are already non-shedding.

Finally...why not a Poodle?  Most Doodles out there are 75% Poodle (75%) and some of the ALDs are running at almost 86% Poodle when you do a pedigree analysis.  No offense to Doodle owners, but I'd put my Standard Poodle up against anyone's Doodle.  Heck, I'd put my Poodles up against most peoples Labs and Goldens.  My dogs are obedience titled and therapy dog certified.  My Poodles are family friendly dogs who are athletic, loving, loyal, easy to train, calm in the house, and they have reliably non-shedding coats.  What's not to like?

There you go Carol...I too said "why not a Poodle"...with a Doodle haircut!!!  ha ha  My husband and I have now a great admiration for Poodles once we met "regular" ones that don't have those fancy hairdos.  We have friends who have both Doodles and Poodles and at times it is hard to tell which is the Poodle.  It always turns out the smartest and most agile one is the Poodle!  They are amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to ever have a Poodle!

I understand not wanting people to prejudge you but unless you walk around with a teacup poodle in a pink sweater in your arms--nobody would think you were feminine.  Standard poodles can be BIG.

it isnt a BIG  or popular stereotype and it would NOT  turn off a WOMAN--so who cares what some idiot other guy might think??

Standards poodles have a known history to back up a "lifespan" estimate....labradoodles dont.  I would NOT use that to compare.  If you just dont like poodles, fine.  But chances are a non-shedding LD trimmed to 1 inch looks virtually identical to a poodle with the same haircut.

Yes I realize you have a book.  But that is a guess.  I'm pretty sure the author does not know a slew of 13-15 y.o. F1b Labradoodles.  Really, compared to the number of pure breed standard poodles out there for their statistics ... making a guess about doodles is fine...but it's far more of a guess anyway.  They haven't been around long enough.  Plus it's not like any given dog will always live up to its life expectancy.  A 2 year difference is NOT necessarily a 2 year diff in real life for ONE dog.

These are all esitmates. I have found reliable sources that say the French Bulldogs (my other breed) live 8-10, 10-12, 9-11, and up to 14 years. Basically pretty shorts live to quite long.I really doubt the 14 years, but it gives some insight into just how useless these estimate are.

I'm ROTFL because having lived in a big city with a large gay population, I have to tell you that as far as dogs go, there is nothing gayer than a terrier.  Gay men LOVE them!  In fact, in the 90s in Seattle, if a guy had a Jack Russell, he might as well go around with a big rainbow on his shirt.

As far as lifespan goes, I don't know where you got your data but Standard Poodles are generally living to 12-15 years.  But whatever.... you don't want a Poodle, that's fine.

I was chuckling also, my 2 pugs died about 2 years ago, 9 months apart. They were in their 13 year of life and they were litter mates, never separated. I was at a dinner party with my ex husband when they were about 7 years old and we were talking about walking the dogs and the things that they did and one of my husbands colleagues said - "you walk the pugs? You know that gay guys like pugs" My ex started to come up with all sorts of reasons to not walk them. I had to tell them that it was too late. The whole neighborhood already thought he was gay and accepted him just as he was, so he might as well keep on walking the dogs. The silly things we do to each other.

HILARIOUS Cindy, "men"!

I am laughing out loud on this comment here!  So funny.

A standard Poodle isn't a guarantee you won't be allergic either...and guess what my childhood dog was always a poodle, we used to let their poodle hair grow and did a puppy cut, they looked just like doodles.

Jared, just a question but why do you want another dog? If you are allergic you will not know which you are allergic too and which you aren't (if any).

Why push the envelope? Dakota and Ozzy is plenty of dog I think, at least plenty of cute that is.

I gotta say Jared that you are totally only listening to yourself and not to what others are saying. I remember going through this with you when you got Dakota and were posting your problems with her and going on and on about how much you loved your Pug and was having a problem loving the new puppy but you would hang in there and love her but never like you love your Pug.  The Pug in your eyes has always been perfect but Dakota has had to prove herself to you from day one...IMO.  I also read back on your page and you said you were suffering from allergies long before you ever got Dakota.  Therefore, I doubt your Pug is not 100% NOT at fault for some of your allergy problems. You even stated he shed like crazy.  None of us have any idea who your breeder was...for all we know it was a backyard breeder and was saying only what you wanted to hear.  Yes, she lied to you but then I am thinking maybe you did not do your homework. If you had, you never would have gotten an F1b that was bread back to a Lab!!!  Geez, when someone wants a Doodle that is less likely to shed they get the F1b that is bread back to a Poodle.  You got it all wrong when you made your choice.  I am not doubting your allergies but you are not going to solve your problems having dogs...and what is with the Hamster in your photos?  They have dander and shed as well.  I'm sorry, I am just having a huge problem with you and your way of thinking.  For you to be worried about being seen with a Poodle because you will be labeled GAY is totally your problem and no one elses.  That is the most insecure and immature thing I have ever heard.  I am old enough to be your mother and I think you are acting spoiled, self-centered and selfish.  Go back and read what all the wonderful people here at DK have been saying to you and then read your comments.  Every one of them is a defensive lash back at what we are trying to suggest.  I am sorry I am writing this but you have really pushed it and I am through reading any of your posts.  I said that last year when you constantly complained about poor Dakota  but I saw this post and thought you maybe you had figured some things out.  I see that you are still only listening to what you want and not taking in our suggestions at all.  I doubt there is anyone here on DK who is going to recommend a breeder to you based on what you have said.  Good Luck with your future!
