I am curious, are you looking for an Australian Labradoodle that has ties to the original Australian breeding lines or the other type of Australian Labradoodle that has the origin of the Australian shepard with Labrador retriever crossed? The Australian shepard is not even from Australia and has also been called by different names like Blue Heeler. They are very smart and active dogs. I don't know if they are a Canadian definition of AL or are known as a popular cross as doodle. I have been wondering myself when breeders advertise on these associations which type they are promoting? Are you getting a friend, or looking for a friend?
We had an older Lab shepard cross that was a great dog. Our vet had said that getting another dog before she passed often helps the older dog and also being such a good dog also helps to raise the puppy too. We got Neely and I think it was a good move for her and and him. Neely is a very laid back doodle, it's like he is an old dog in some respects and yet a puppy when you want him to be. I do think this was from being with Jazzie until she passed.
The australian shepard doodles are very high energy and also have the hearding trait deep inside them as well. Not a good idea when you want a laid back dog.
I started out my search for a labradoodle originally and took two years of researching breeds ect before we decided to go with a golden doodle. They are far less hyper than labs (of course depending on the parents too) We started looking for the original Aussiedoodle thinking that was the best of the best, if you believe everything you read. We changed our minds pretty quickly. Price of course was a big deal. The looks and size were another. The temperment was of course very important and the big reason we switched to golden doodles. We have been extremely happy.
The other issue that we found out later, was the controversy over the puppy mill aspect of Beverly Manners and her questionable breeding lines. I won't go on and on about that with you. But I would strongly advise you to start with doodle kisses and dig a little deeper into the Australian blood lines. It was just brought up in a discussion last week I think. You may want to change your mind based on that information.
There are fairly easy ways to find breeders with this line though. As far as I know there is one within an hour or so from me. Many of them discontinued breeding her lines when they found out their stock may be or was questionable.
