Zach was at dog school yesterday. We completed heel exercises in the outside yard and were to walk one by one back into the inside training room. When it was Zach's turn to walk past the other dogs and owners he went from alert heeling to full mode prancing - like he was walking the runway. I have also noticed that when we are walking in the neighborhood, he goes into prance mode when he sees women walking alone (not men, and not people walking dogs).

Do your doodles prance, or in other ways "strut their stuff" when they have an audience?

Both of mine prance :)  I call it strutting when Buddy is in full movement at the head of the pack!  Can't tell you how many people ask if he is a show dog, I just tell them he likes to "show".

Thisi s so weird, Wakefield's been doing this straight front leg strut/prance thing going into the front doors of the nursing/rehab centers we do therapy visits at - and then sometimes doing it going down the hallways. The other teams are laughing their heads off at him. It's cool to hear it's a poodle/doodle thing :)

Does Wakefield enjoy his visits to the care centers? I have noticed that Tara will also start prancing when she is really happy about something!

That is interesting, because after Zach got his hair cut, I was a bit sad, but he pranced about the shop and in the yard when we went home. He was definately please with the way he felt afterwards. So I figured if it made him that happy....

Tara always seemed to enjoy her hair cuts from the groomer much more than I did too! I just didn't have the heart to tell her how BAD she looked!!  So I just pretended to be happy too!

He loves them!  He's such a people "person", he adores all the attention and petting he gets. And his coat is so soft and fluffy the older people get such a tactile experience out of petting him,it's great to see the smiles on their faces (he's the only doodle in a group of labs, a great dane, a giant schnauzer, an aierdale (sp?) and a large mixed breed - so it gives them a wide range of coat types to pet). We also have been doing reading programs with kids under ten and have done several presentations at schools - one for kids under five. He absolutely LOVES the little kids.  That's remarkable to me since he's not around any at home. I need to post some recent pictures of him surrounded by about six little ones - all about two or three years old!

Sounds like Wakefield is a "happy" prancer too! I would love to see the pics of him with the little kids!! It sounds like he is spreading the doodle joy to many people!! Wonderful!!!

Guinness does...it's kind of a half prance, half dance.  Murph doesn't prance...he stalks.

LOL @ Murphy the Stalker!

I would love to see Murph and Kona in a stand off stalk

Absolutely!  In fact, I don't think Charlie knows how to walk normally.  His usual walk is a simple prance.  Then when he sees people or another dog, he looks like he could keep up with the Budweiser horses!  You can always hear people commenting as he passes by on his prancing.

LOL....Yup!    I've had so many people ask me if he's a show dog....and I didn't understand why til one day a man said he walks just like one!    I love the prance......it makes him look very puppish!
