Advise needed... My 7-month-old doodle has never really gotten a full hair cut. She has only been bathed, and trimmed around the eye and had a sanitary places. She is has an appointment with the groomer in two weeks. I have heard it is good to do a puppy trim so the new coat can come in smoothly. She has only had two mats so far and seems to have a really manageable coat. Her hair is about 4 inches long. What should I do? Trim the whole coat? If so, how much? Thanks in advance for feedback!
Here is a picture of Maizy this morning... my little muppet!

You too!
Since she is 7 months old and you have only had a few matts I see no reason to trim anything differently then you have but BEWARE matts happen overnight and if you don't notice them they grow each day. Just keep brushing her always.
I will defer you to this discussion.

Yes, I started that discussion and it shows you what happens when you wait too long!!
I would get her clipped at the age of ten months, not short, short--but manageable, Maybe 1 inch long, so that, if her puppy to adult coat transition is bad, you don't have too much hair to deal with. Just trimming should be fine for now and gets her acquainted with the groomer. She sure is cute!!
10 months it is! Thanks for the advise!
I too love the shaggy doodle look, but I trimmed Harley down just this past week for the first time. He will be 11 months at the end on the month and it seemed like mats were popping up over night. He has never matted before, I'm hoping that once his adult coat is in it will be as easy to care for. Even though I cut alot of hair, he is still not "shaved". just much easier to brush through
Mats terrify me!!!
Don't cut her hair (at least not to much). She is soo cute, and she has a really nice long coat.
We have decided to just clean up the areas that need it! We will "trim" her when it gets warmer!
Maizy is beautiful it's winter and cold, I would leave it for now. I read 4-6 inches for cold weathe,r and 2-4 inches for warmer weather.

Thanks Rhonda! Makes sense. :)
