Advise needed... My 7-month-old doodle has never really gotten a full hair cut. She has only been bathed, and trimmed around the eye and had a sanitary places. She is has an appointment with the groomer in two weeks. I have heard it is good to do a puppy trim so the new coat can come in smoothly. She has only had two mats so far and seems to have a really manageable coat. Her hair is about 4 inches long. What should I do? Trim the whole coat? If so, how much? Thanks in advance for feedback!

Here is a picture of Maizy this morning... my little muppet!

Maizy is beautiful, if her coat is easy to manage you don't need to get her cut. I would just do the sani trim, paw pads and maybe a little around the eyes. I love the shaggy doodle look.

Ditto! So adorable!

thanks :)

Oh so cute!

I think its all down to personal preference. We didnt give Cooper a cut until she was over 1 year old (and it was summer). We battled through the puppy mats and kept her fur long. Now she only gets a cut when its hot in the summer, and a little trim now and then to keep the ends of her fur from fraying too much (not counting eyes and sani area). She is about 6 inched long now. I love the muppet look!

Sweet little muppet she is indeed!  I have done all of my girls grooming for the 4 and a half years.  ALL OF IT, lol but the only mats I did ever encounter was at under a year old.  I am not a trimmer so I always shave her and leave her head fluffy and blend that with clippers.  The downfall this time of year its cold...Shelbys coat is around six inches and will sit outside in twenty degree weather like its the beach.

I would find a great groomer to trim the coat.  Best of luck and happy holidays!

Thank you and Happy Holidays to you too!

She's so cute!! AGREED just trim face, pads, etc...love the shaggy look IF it is manageable, keep it.

Obviously the decision falls to you, but you are going to have to really stay on top of brushing and combing if you decide to leave it long.  You don't want to end up having her shaved because you couldn't keep up with the matts.  Some matt worse than others so it is hard to know which way it will go.

What a cutie pie !!!  My preference for my dogs is two fold.... Ollie (my big lug) has a very easy coat to maintain, I brush him every day and he does not matt much at all.  Sasha... well she is very poodley and I need to keep her shorter because she does not shed and matts easy.

I think it is what YOU want, since Maizy's coat is easy for you to maintain why get her cut??  If you do get her cut I would bring in  a picture of a doodle that you like the hair cut so there is no miss interpertation (sp?)

Good luck in your decision and please post a pic if you decide on a new "do" for Maizy :)

Thank you!!! I have decided to just trim the areas that need it! :)

I agree that I like the shagy doodle look! Just trim when needed like tummy, pads, and eyes! Happy Holidays!!
