I finally broke down and emailed the Maricopa County Shelter....received a quick response! I just don't get why she looks so much like a "doodle" but they say she is only 10 pd.s....I know they are making mini doodles....but this little?? anyone know how little they come now?? I have attached the email I received back, because I also asked about their policy on euthanasia.....Good news!!!
Good morning. She is a little over ten pounds. She is two years old and came to us as a stray. She is at our pet adoption center inside the PetSmart at 4380 N. Miller Road in Scottsdale. Her adoption fee is $85.
Once a dog passes their evaluation, they are on the adoption floor until they get adopted or if their health changes. We do not have a due out by or else date.
There are several very small doodles on DK. I think one 9 pound and one 12 pound if I remember correctly. She really does have a doodle face and doesn't look like a cockapoo or other mix.Tara is 20 pounds and I tried to recreate the position that the person and dog are in in the picture to see how far up Tara measures on my chest.
She hits me in about the same spot as that dog hits the person behind her but it is hard to judge distance. She just looks bigger to me than 10 pounds! :)
It is a relief to hear that she is safe now. Our shelter has the same policy about the dogs that pass their evaluation.
I understand and AGREE with your feelings when visiting a shelter. It is extremely difficult and overwhelming.
Did you see Liz's comment about her email from the Shelter? It sounds like the dog is at Petsmart rather than the shelter right now. Are you going to be near Petsmart?
I have not heard from anyone but I know that once they find out she is not at risk they will probably not get involved. I am pretty sure that, except for rehomes, they only pull doodles and put them in the DRC program that are at risk of being euthanized.
Okay, thanks Sue!
Peri is SO cute! How much does she weigh?
