Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After considering a very thought provoking post a week or so ago,
http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/not-doodle-related-but-imp...
and my daughters desire to keep toxic paints and plastics out of her newborns environment, I started really looking at items I purchase and where I can buy them locally first.
I'm familiar with all the risks of dog treats and toys and am diligent in finding these items that are made In the USA. And they were actually not too hard to find, so I figured I would have the same luck with baby things.

However, I didn't expect it to be so hard to find things that were NOT made in China! Did you know even Fisher Price Toys are made in China? Baby storybooks? So many baby clothes, bath toys, even soaps and lotions! It's a bigger challenge than I expected and I am frustrated and even a little mad that Americans have allowed this!

Is anyone else committed to buying American and finding it a challenge?

Somerset Hardwood Flooring. The store orders it from California I think they said.

Good for you!!

Just got this email:

THE CHINA SYNDROME-----------

I DIDN'T KNOW HALLMARK CARDS WERE MADE IN CHINA ! That is also why I don't buy cards at Hallmark anymore, They are made in China and are more expensive! I buy them at Dollar Tree - 50 cents each and made in USA

I have been looking at the blenders available on the Internet. Kitchen Aid is MADE IN the US. Top of my list already...

Yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99. I didn't want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA . They are just as good.

Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made in the USA - what a concept! - and they were $3.00 cheaper.

We are being brainwashed to believe that everything that comes from China and Mexico is cheaper. Not so.

One Light Bulb at a Time...

I was in Lowe's the other day and just out of curiosity, I looked at the hose attachments. They were all made in China .

The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there.

They were made in USA .

Start looking, people . . ...In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - most often, their job.

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is now marked "made in Mexico ." I don't buy it anymore.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ... now I have switched to Crest.

You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger . . . I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets.

I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy -- was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared them: they were the same except for the price . . .the GE bulbs cost more than the Everyday Value brand, but the thing that surprised me the most was that that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - you guessed it - the USA at a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

It's Way past time to start finding and buying products you use every day that are made right here.

So, on to the next aisle: Bounce Dryer Sheets... yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand cost less, and was MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years, at almost half the price.

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

Stop buying from overseas companies - you're sending the jobs there. (We should have awakened a decade ago....)

Let's get with the program and help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the USA.

Thanks for posting this F.....I'll copy and will send to all my contacts.

Once upon a time I lived in a small town.  They had several factories, they made shoes, airplane parts, jeans, gloves and a couple of others that included parts for a Boeing factory and a few other factories..  This was in the 70's.. My inlaws worked in the town.  Walked to their jobs, owned one car.  Went home for lunch, it was just up the hill.  They had a wonderful life for 35 years.  They both worked at the shoe factory for piece rate, made good money, they never complained.  Then one day the factory shut down and took their 35 year pension with them, they got NOTHING.  Yes this is true.  Now here were two good people out of the many locals that knew nothing about commuting, working at what............?  They were both in their 50's and had been screwed, totally screwed.  My own ex husband worked for 17 years for Fruehauf building trucks.  Those guys worked their a**** and everything else off.  It was always a joke that your first born boy was to be given to Fruehauf.  After 17 years and a hostile takeover in 1997, he received $3000.  for his TOTAL PENSION PAYMENT. And no, this is not a joke neither.  We are a messed up country.  I recently bought a pair of Sorel boots (from Canada) NOT!!  the gawd damn things say made in China....... :( :(  Ugh, ok, I'll stop now.......

This is so sad and unfortunately true for so many Americans. I went appliance shopping last weekend, and when given the choices I went with Kitchenaid again....made in America! Have had kitchenaid products for years and always love them. Could be why, but never really was as conscientious of it as I am now. The prices are very close to others that are made in china or elsewhere. Yes, it's true, you have to be an educated consumer. Next is granite and I am only getting it if it came from the USA! I may not make a big impact but it sure makes me feel proud to say my renovation was all American made. Now I just need an American made car. Does it count that DH has one and a motorcycle that's made In The USA?

What a sad commentary. I think I will at least try to mend my ways but sometimes it's just hard to find US made items.
