I am pretty worried right now. Cooper had a seizure today at Daycare. They called me and asked me if they could take them next door to their Vet and of course I said Yes. When I got there, he looked fine, but after the Vet talked to me and told me how long it lasted, I decided to let her go ahead with some blood work and a few xrays of his abdomen to be sure he didn't ingest anything.
His cbc came back normal, but his liver enzymes were abnormal and billirubin in particular. Then his abdominal xray also showed an irregularity in the liver area. She said this may point to him being born with a "liver shunt". She took more blood and wanted me to bring him home to eat and then bring him back in two hours. Also said she would give me something to cover him over the weekend in case he has more seizures. Poor baby.
I am trying not to worry about a diagnosis before we actually get one, but I am hoping it is not this liver problem. It is a genetic flaw that they can be born with.

Poor Cooper! I will keep him in my prayers.
Just wanted to add our prayers too. I hope you get through the weekend without any problems and that the answers are coming soon.
I am so sorry you are going through this with Cooper. We are sending positive thought and hugs your way.
I read in my research that most dogs has a seizure at one point in their life. Maybe this was Cooper's and he got it over with early in life. :) I hope he's feeling better!
Update. They called this morning and they received the Bile Acid tests back that they did late yesterday and they were also high. A different Vet reviewed the chart and he agreed with the Vet from yesterday that it is pointing to a liver or possibly a gallbladder problem and recommended an ultrasound. I asked again if this could cause a seizure and they said yes. We have been keeping an eye on him and he acts ok most of the time, but is having periods of "stares" and pacing today. Poor guy. He is scheduled for the ultrasound on Monday.
Martha, Hoping for the very best outcome for Cooper. Please keep us updated. I really hope there are no more episodes.
Thanks for the update Martha. I hope he has a calm and restful weekend and you are able to get some definitive answers Monday. Still hoping for the best of outcomes for him!
Let's hope you get more answers from Monday's ultrasound and that there's a relatively easy fix for the liver or gallbladder issue. Will send positive thoughts your way!
