I am pretty worried right now. Cooper had a seizure today at Daycare. They called me and asked me if they could take them next door to their Vet and of course I said Yes. When I got there, he looked fine, but after the Vet talked to me and told me how long it lasted, I decided to let her go ahead with some blood work and a few xrays of his abdomen to be sure he didn't ingest anything.
His cbc came back normal, but his liver enzymes were abnormal and billirubin in particular. Then his abdominal xray also showed an irregularity in the liver area. She said this may point to him being born with a "liver shunt". She took more blood and wanted me to bring him home to eat and then bring him back in two hours. Also said she would give me something to cover him over the weekend in case he has more seizures. Poor baby.
I am trying not to worry about a diagnosis before we actually get one, but I am hoping it is not this liver problem. It is a genetic flaw that they can be born with.

Oh my.... how scary. We're sending hugs and doodle kisses and hoping you get some answers soon.
Hoping for answers and the very best outcome for Cooper. Hang in there.
I'm sorry to hear this. Sending good thoughts and hugs to you and Cooper.
How worrying. It sounds though like you found your way to a good vet who will hopefully be able to give you answers very soon. I will be thinking of you and Cooper and hoping for the best possible news.
Sending loving thoughts your way.
Sounds like you have a good support group with the vet and doggy day care. Thank goodness he was with people when he had his first seizure. Our thoughts are with you and keep us posted.
Latest update:
Vet said she the ultrasound showed what she thought was at least one shunt, but that it may be partially closed and that is why he has done so well for so long. Otherwise, he would have been a very sick dog by 4-5 months old. She said it is best that he be seen by an Internist Group in Cincinnati for a consult ASAP. This group can also provide any surgery if he is a candidate. The first appointment they had was Thursday.
Martha, I'm so sorry that you received such frightening news. I hope and pray that Cooper will be fine. It sounds like he will get excellent care in Cincinnati. I hope that is not too far from where you live. Hugs and doodle kisses for both of you.
We''ll include you and Cooper on our doodle prayer list. Hoping for really good news when you see the specialist.
Thinking of you! Please keep us posted.
Sending prayers your way.
I'm so sorry to hear this but at least you know something. Our thoughts, and paw hugs are with you both. It sounds like he is in very good hands. I dont know Coopers history but if you got him from a breeder, be sure to inform them. It is something they need to know.
