Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am so tired that I am going to just copy and paste what I posted on another site. I know you won't mind as long as you get the update.
We agreed to another ultrasound of his abdomen in order to try and avoid another rather expensive and risky test only to find out that he needs the expensive and risky test anyway. :-( So he was sent home on 3 meds to clear some of the toxin from his system and control any possible seizures for 3 weeks until we decide what to do. Also, they didn't think he would handle the anesthesia required at this point, without getting his liver function into better shape. This would take approx 3 weeks.
There are several likely scenarios here and I won't go into all of them. Bottomline, it seems we caught it while he is still fairly healthy and he has a good chance if he happens to have a shunt that can be repaired by surgery. If he doesn't have the shunt, it is another story.
The Vet also found enlarged lymph nodes in his gastrointestinal track and was a little concerned about that, but said since Cooper has been a dog with GI problems, it may be an indication that he has undiagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but it is too early to rule out a developing Lymphoma or neoplasm?. This is something he wants to keep an eye on too.
We agreed to go home, start him on the meds and think things over. He was such a good boy after he got over his frenzied greetings. LOL! They said he laid still on his back with them holding him without sedative for 30 minutes for the ultrasound.

Martha, I missed the original post so I was shocked to read your update! I am so sorry you are having these problems with Cooper. If there is anything I can do to help or if you need to talk, give me a call. Hopefully, as you said, it was caught early and he has a shunt that can be repaired. Give Cooper a hug from us. Hopefully Cooper will be better soon and we can meet up in the spring for a little romp.
Ann! I will try and call you sometime next week. I would like nothing better than for him to be well enough to get together for a romp.
That would be great Martha, I look forward to the call and hope to see you again soon!
That's pretty heavy news. Hope Cooper is doing better, but whatever you decide, he is so happy to just be at home with you. Our poor pets put up with the vet and all the tests because they just want to go home with you. Enjoy Cooper and let him enjoy you. My thoughts are with all of you these days.
poor Cooper. I'm so sorry. I hope the meds help him and that you can sort this out soon. We're thinking of you and Cooper.
I am sorry you are not hearing more positive findings at this point. Please take care of yourself. We will continue to keep you and Cooper in our prayers.
Still praying for a full recovery for little Cooper!
Thank you so much for the update. I am sure you are pretty overwhelmed right now. I send my wishes for the best recovery for Cooper.
Sending hugs and good thought to you and Cooper.
Three big doodle boys are sending hugs and good thoughts to Cooper. Thank you for updating us and we will keep you in our thoughts as you go through this.
Just catching up on Cooper. I'm just so shocked at all the sick doodles lately. I certainly hope the next 3 weeks go smoothly and they can get a firm diagnosis and can get him all fixed up and back to normal. Paws crossed here. If you end up needing to come to Cincinnati and need anything please don't hesitate to ask. I'm not that far out of the City and come in just for moral support if nothing else. Hang in there. Hugs to you both.
Thank you so much for the offer to come in for support. That is very nice. My hubby came with me last week, but I am not sure if he will be able to go next time, so I might just take you up on this, when Cooper goes for the Splenopantogram. I am waiting to hear from PetPlan to see if I can get it "pre-authorized".
