Please do not shed you clothes : ) This month we can submit the same pictures with varied exposure, whether by changing the aperture, the shutter speed or the ISO. Let us know what you did. Try to change one parameter for a group of photos so it will be easy to see what changes resulted in the changes in the image e.g. just change the shutter speed but not the ISO etc. I guess that might mean shooting in all manual mode so I for one will need to read my manual. I'm not sure whether Point and Shooters  have much control over these parameters but they may have some. Anyway we welcome all efforts. Here is what Wikipedia has to say, the tables could make your eyes glaze over but the explanations in words may help.

I don't know if this is what you are talking about but what about something like this. I just did this in editing.

After:

Taylor, I actually like the before better.  If you look really hard at the flower petals they are sharper and more defined in the first photo.  In the second they are getting a bit "blown out" and blurry.  Especially the yellow flowers up in the back of the arrangement.

Yeah, I do too. I thought that the flowers did look a little blown out too.

oh wow. i hadn't even read this before updating my winter photography discussion. So basically, that was my submission lol. I'll try to experiement some more with the same shot.

Wow--I'm really learning stuff about how to use my camera!  These photos were all taken in artificial light (kitchen light on), with the camera on a tripod and set on manual.  The camera, even set on manual, seems to decide whether to call the 'program' aperture, shutter or manual, maybe depending on which dial I changed most recently.  I wish it didn't do this, because then I have to wonder if I changed one of the OTHER settings.  But for this series, I know the camera was set on manual.  There were several that turned out super blurred or just black.  In the following, you can at least see that the subject is an apple. :)

Great comparative shots. If your camera is on anything but manual it will set everything other than what you've got it on, For instance, if you choose aperture priority it will compensate for that to get what it "thinks" is the best picture. In automatic it does all and in manual you can set all. This will be a good learning experience for most of us. Some of the "semipros" do know all this : )

Thanks, F.  I could have sworn I didn't change the manual setting to anything else, but must have been changing dials and buttons all over the place!  Not the best way to get comparatives.  :)

Pat...I have found that just in handling my camera and wearing it around my shoulder when I am out and about that my dials and such get bumped and moved.  I always have to recheck them all when I am composing.  I am great for picking up my camera and since I have the Aperture dial on the front of the right side of my camera and the back side is the Shutter Speed Dial, when I grip my camera I am always rotating the dials by accident.

I resent having to remember which dial and to hold down the shutter button halfway etc. but I guess that prevents more accidental changes.

Exactly, F!  You have to use a very precise amount of pressure to hold the shutter button down halfway or you'll accidently take a picture (or a series of pictures) of your foot, and at the same time you are supposedly holding down button A and turning dial B.  If you happen to use your index finger to depress button A, you'd better hope you've got lots of dexterity going on in your little finger, which will now be required to turn Dial B.  Oh, and you're also holding the camera.  LOL

I've taken lots of those pictures but at least they're easily deleted.

Nancie...good tip.  Along with maybe changing dials accidently, I tend to change too many things at once and then can't figure out which change or combination of changes made the final shot turn out the way it did.
