Charlie will be 6 in May. He isn't quite as active as he used to be. He enjoys just laying around the house most of the day and playing for an hour or two in the evening. We do take 2 walks a day, about one to two miles each. But whenever my daughter comes with her little dog, he plays quite a bit during the day. I am sure if we had a second dog he would be much more playful and active. Charlie has been very healthy except for one small seizure about a year ago. Luckily, there have not been any more yet and his blood work has come back just fine. He does have a sensitive stomach and seems to not tolerate anything with chicken. But overall he is one healthy dood!
OK, now I'm bummed! I had NO clue (I don't stalk everyone's pages) that my mini doods were older than say Gavin, Fudge, Vern, Camus....Chloe will be 5 in March and Myla just turned 4 in January. Maybe it's the size thing that had me fooled or that yours are way better trained????LOL!!
Well I believe the projected life span is 12-15 years, with the smaller Doodles living even longer than that. As for common health problems with aging, I think it's a little early in the history of the "breed" to know for sure. I guess I would look to the genetics of the parent breeds until there is enough data to draw conclusions on Doodles. That gets tricky for me since my guys are ALDs (aka Cobba Dogs...LOL). There are several breeds involved, so it would be difficult to project what their issues could be. Guinness will be three next month, and Murph is two. They both have digestive issues.
Hunter is going to be 3 on February 24th.... sniff sniff... where does the time go. I have noticed that Hunter is getting a little rounder with age - I need to step up her exercise - she is quite the lazy dood given the opportunity. She is a stardard F1 and weighs about 57lbs up from last year.
Ned and Clancy will turn 4 on March 17th. Ned is itchy but rarely actually scratches a sore or hot spot. Clancy has had a couple of ear infections and one skin infection since we got him at age 2.
Koko is 1 1/2 and Maggie is 2 1/2 mini doods and so totally different, healthy girls.
Milly will be a year old in March and has been out of her defiant puppy stage for about 3 months (fingers crossed it never comes back!) She's healthy with a little dry skin, (I'm going to go ahead and blame this on how close she likes to nap next to the wood stove during these cold months.) We seem to have the dry skin under control with cocoa nut and salmon oils being added to her food! She's not as high strung, or as energetic as most doodles we meet. She can defiantly turn on the get up and go and play all day.. but she can also stay cuddled up next to me all day for a movie day on the couch.
Sadie is now 5.Gosh I thought she was a puppy just yesterday. She is now and always has been totally healthy.Never issues with food or skin or anything.
Thank goodness.
