Poor Stella has kennel cough!  We knew something was up when she wouldn't stop coughing last night.....I was terrified she had a trachea injury of some sort (she constantly pulls on her collar....we are getting her a harness tomorrow)  but when we took her to the vet, they determined it's kennel cough.  She has been producing some phlegm when she coughs, so it does seem to be kennel cough.  Poor thing... she is usually such a tough little girl, but you can tell she's a little off.  The vet prescribed antibiotics for both her and Seamus, our other doodle.  He has not shown symptoms of kennel cough...is this strange?  I know how contagious it is.  Both have actually had the vaccine back in August, but the vet said it's either a different strain of the virus or it's a minor case and hopefully won't stick around as long since they've been vaccinated.

Is it possible that Stella has it and Seamus doesn't??  I just thought it was weird and just want to make sure it isn't a misdiagnosis.

Stella thanks you for the help!

From my experience...not because I know anything about it...Stella may have gotten it first and Seamus might get it soon. sorry. I hope that doesn't happen.

Poor Stella... R&b have both had KC.....rosey right after her spay and then bandit got it BAD as a pup having to be hospitAlzed but rosey never got it from him...{{hugs}} hopefully she feels better soon:)

One of our dogs got kennel cough even though he had been immunized.  The other dogs did not.

Same here....one of my dogs had it and the other didn't.  I just can't remember now which one.  We were lucky...it was a pretty mild case.  Here's hoping Stella feels much better real soon.

Ours was milder also.  I don't know if we caught it early, if it was milder because he had been immunized, or if it just was a milder case.

Riley got it a couple of weeks ago even though he was immunized.  He had a very mild dose which tailed off completely after about six days.  The incubation period is 3-14 days (from memory) so Seamus will most likely follow on.

Hope Stella recovers soon! (and nobody else catches it) I've heard of only one dog before too.

So far so good with the antibiotics.  Both Seamus and Stella are on the meds.....Seamus hasn't developed a cough yet and Stella's cough has already significantly decreased.  And just a side note.....I said in my original post that initially I was so nervous that Stella had developed a problem with her trachea because she pulls so much.....even though it turned out to be kennel cough, I bought the easy walker harness for Stella today anyway and just returned from a walk.  WHAT AN AWESOME HARNESS!!!! I am literally kicking myself for not having bought it earlier!! Stella didn't pull once on our walk!!

I  had one of my girls pick it up at the vet office, then passed it to the other two. My daughter's dog was over with them and got it too. It is contagious and it was quite expensive to treat all 4 dogs (I paid for my daughter's dog to be treated too). Better to be safe than sorry. The quarantine is several weeks once they have it, so it is easier to treat them all at once. Good luck.

Just an update.....Seamus got it....seems to be a VERY mild case for both of them...just a few coughs a day and a few at night.  I'm also sick with a cold that I can't take anything for because I'm pregnant...so my house right now is just not a whole lot of fun lol

Congratulations on expecting a baby! I hope you and the doodles get well very soon.

I am sorry Seamus got it also, but glad that it is mild.  Sorry that you are also sick.
