Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello all! So, we live in Indiana and the Indiana doodle group has not been active since I've become a Doodle Kisses member.  We were hoping to find some other doodle families close by so that we could have play dates and sit for one another.  We are going on vacation in March for a week and a half and under no circumstance do I want to board Maggie, it just makes me uncomfortable.  Usually family would love to watch her, but they are all going as well.  Is there a group or a forum out there where we can sign up to doodle sit for one another????  Any thoughts? Thanks!

You can search the members page by location and contact members near you who appear to have been active in the last few months.  There is also a doodle sitters group here on DK.

What are your reservations with using a boarding facility?  If you are concerned about her being in a cage all day, you might want to check out some of the different places located in Indy (which I don't think is too far away from you, but I could be wrong).  I live in NW Indiana and we use a place about 40 minutes from here because it is basically the Hilton of dog boarding.  They get to play all day and then are in a room together at night.  It even has a little doggie door that leads out to their very own patio.  The place isn't cheap but I am paying for the peace of mind too.  They really enjoy going there and start to jump around the car when the realize we are getting close.  If you just don't like the idea of leaving her with strangers, then I understand, I just wanted to try and give you a possible option.

Hey Amy. We have boarded her at a place that we really like before, it's actually the same place she does Daycare a few days a week, I'm just hesitant to board her for 12 days.  It's such a long time and I know that they love dogs at this place, but I just worry that she doesn't get enough one on one attention.  We crate trained her as a puppy, but for the last 6 months or so she hasn't been in one, so I don't want being kenneled at night to be stressful.  I know I'm probably just being unreasonable, I was just thinking that leaving her with another family that loves doodles would be the best option.  Plus, I wouldn't mind doodle sitting from time to time, I desperately want another dog, but have to wait until we get a bigger place...lol. Thanks for the reassurance though, I'm sure we'll end up boarding her, after all she's probably so exhausted after 12 hours of daycare that she could sleep anywhere.

My brother and his wife boarded their dog for 3 weeks when they had their wedding and 2 week honeymoon.  I am not sure what the sleep arrangements were at night, but i know she was in daycare all day and my brother said that (other than the cost) it worked out well.  I guess their dog spent the first few days back at home sleeping because she had played so hard when she was boarding.  Does your daycare give you the option to purchase any extra one on one time?  You could always give them a call and talk to them about your concerns.  If you use the daycare once a week, they might be willing to work out some special one on one time for her because they are familiar with you.

have you checked meetup.com to see if there are any dog groups near you?
