Help! my hands are raw

They say to put a toy between your puppy teeth and your hand and keep using a diversion until he stops but when I pick up a toy for him to chew on he goes right for the hand holding the toy...those little sharp teeth are chewing my hands raw...should i try putting on some bitter apple as a hand lotion?

Good luck. I am interested in hearing replys for this as we are trying to get our puppy to stop chewing on us.

I can not even have the puppy and my 4 yr old in the same room because she bits and jumps on her and I can not get her to stop.

I'm in the same boat with an 11 week old. He has a few bursts of energy throughout the day and those include trying to bite our pants legs hands feet whatever. We've tried redirecting him to a chew toy which helps occasionally. We say "no bite" and sometimes he will stop and then "air bite". Just doesn't seem to remember from one incident to the next that he should not be biting. We keep working on it. Not sure if it's play or him trying to assert his dominance.

Same boat.  Do the "no bite" while grabbing his snout.  Of course he bites your hand as you let go of his snout.

Hi Tom.  Your pup is precious.  Try letting out a loud, high pitched "eww",  type noise and hiding your hands or turning your back every time your puppy nips you.    This is what his momma and litter mates would do to teach him that is unacceptable.  Using words like "no" and "no bite" do not work because your pup does not speak english.  We can teach our dogs to pair english words with behaviours by first getting a behavior and then naming it and then using repetition and this is how you will train him to sit, down, stay, etc.   For puppy nipping this does not work.  Keep sticking something appropriate in his little mouth and try the high pitched noise followed by removing hands/fingers and turning back for few seconds.   The good news is that this stage will be over soon.

We went through this stage recently with Sammy, and I am happy to say it is over now.  We did a combination of things, including using bitter apple, grabbing his snout with the "no bite" phrase, substituting a toy, and finally getting up and giving him a timeout, putting him in a (puppy-proofed) room alone for a minute or two.  That seemed to do the trick, as he didn't like being in a boring place without us.  He still mouths occasionally but never bites down.  Labs are mouthy, so it may never completely stop but it will get better.  My husband and I bear the scars on our hands and arms, I feel your pain!

I am having the same issue with Lucy Scarlett, although my HANDS are the Scarlett part too!  I tried everything, but what works best is I loudly say "NO BITE" and then put my hands under my armpits and turn or walk away from her.  If she follows and starts nipping at other body parts, I confine her and leave her alone telling her, "Not Nice" and leave.  She'll cry for a bit then realizes I'm not coming back to play unless she behaves.

I gave her somewhat of a "pass" because she is teething too...so I give her ice chips to chew on and she loves it!  Frozen chew toys work well also...the best is a frozen antler!  That's her favorite!

I hope it stops when she stops teething!
