Amante and I have been practicing for our CGC certificate. Our test day comes and Amante does fantastic almost perfect!!!! Only one issue was during the separation exercise, he wined a little. The lady who conducted the class was surprised by this, he was usually fine during this exercise. They decided to pass him. A group of the other pet owners were all telling Amante he was a Mamma's boy. Mamma's boy!!! I had hurt feelings. I know that Amante is attached, but I didn't like the way they were saying it. I know Amante sensed my frustration and this may be silly, but I think that he understood I was not happy. I think I should mention that Amante and I never really felt welcome in this group. He is a "mutt" and they are purebreds!! In the beginning , I had doubts that he might not pass. He was easily startled and would hide behind me. Comments were made that he would never pass. I knew he could do it and we practiced. I want to write it off as them just being jealous. I wish that I would of spoke up and just tell them off.
My question Should I be concerned? Should my feelings be hurt?

Well done and congrats, you have a gorgeous velcro Doodle. Those other owners are not worth bothering about, good riddance!
Congrats to you both!! It's never easy hearing what rude people have to say but you have to take it for what it is and move on.
Be proud that your "mutt" proved them wrong!! Go doodles!!!!
Congratulations Rose Ann and Amante! I think it's a huge accomplishment that you have a CGC....clearly a demonstration of hard work on both of your parts. I had a similar situation in Murphy's Flyball class with one dog owner (Boxer) who said to me on the first day that she was very surprised to see a Doodle at a Flyball class. Well the Doodle passed into the Intermediate level and guess what...the Boxer didn't. I must admit, I got some pleasure from this....although I know that's a bit immature on my part. So, I understand what you're feeling. But Amante DID PASS! He showed everyone what a Doodle can do. I say just celebrate your success!
Congrats Amante for passing!
Cooper too likes to know where I am - when I was sick this weekend she sat outside the bedroom door and cried (so DH tells me). I think its good because it shows you are the alpha and they look to you for commands. Just as long as it doesnt get to the point where they have seperation anxiety, I think its just fine.
Forget those snobs, you both did great!
Congratulations! We have a boy who is very attached to his family and sometimes has a little separation anxiety. But that is just his personality. Our girl doodle is very friendly to everyone and so independent.
I sometimes wish I too could speak up when people are so obviously rude but I usually just let it go too.
So glad he passed.
Good for you Amante and pooh pooh on those that call him a Mama's boy, definitely not what I would call a good dog/owner relationship, which is what you have.
Rose Ann,
I would love a mama's boy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amante sounds like a dream. See my recent post: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/doodles-males-vs-females
CONGRATS TO YOU AND AMANTE!! To heck with those gals, dont even think about it.
Congratulations to you and Amante! Buddy and I flunked our first CGC because he barked and pulled and went wild when I left him with the instructor. Talk about embarrassed, my instructor too was shocked as in every other way he was perfect in the class. It took a little practice, but he finally did pass, but is still the biggest momma's boy and I love him to death.
Be proud you have such a loving sweet boy to share with the world Rose Ann!
Don't let these snobs dampen your excitement and pride that Amante and you passed !!! Celebrate your success and don't give these people a second thought...
So happy for the two of you....now go out and celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY for you, Amante! Yo just ignore those jealous pure-breed snobs (oops- did I just say that!) I LOVE momma's boys - I've actually got two of my own 'human' ones! It's so hard to not let others' comments get to us, but you should be proud... YOU did what they thought could not be done! And who are "they" any way! You enjoy your wonderful accomplishment! congratulations!
