Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all,
I am new to this forum ( a friend from the local dog park referred me here as a great place to meet other doodle owners) . My family and I were the proud owner of a standard f1 goldendoodle named Max from Burkhart Kennels in the Kitchener/Waterloo Are. We purchased Max in 2009 from Lovina and Joseph and unfortunately he passed away from bone cancer 3 months ago. My kids and wife are devastated and we are looking to purchase a new puppy in the next couple of months.
I can honestly say that i did not do the proper research before purchasing max from Burkhart Kennels. I just was not educated enough about puppy mills and inbreeding and the other important factors that one should look for in a breeder. My wife phoned Lovina in November when he was diagnosed to let her know, not because I was looking for my money back or anything of the sort ( even though I was still in the guarentee period of the two years she offers with each puppy). She was not understanding or sympathetic in any way and hung up the phone by saying " there is nothing we can do to help you, please dont call here anymore". She did tel us however, that Max's mother is still breeding and she is 10 years old.
I am just wondering if anyone can help me find a responsible caring breeder who stands by their puppies...any recommendations would be very helpful
Best
Stuart

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss of poor Max.
Members are not permitted to recommend breeders here in the open forum. Here are some links to help you:
From the Guidelines:
Reviews of individual breeders do NOT belong in the main forum, blogs or groups or any public area of DK. If you want to recommend your breeder, you may do so in our Owner Recommended Breeders group or invite your breeder to post an ad in our puppy sales groups (mentioned below) or make the recommendation privately (on a member's profile page or by private message). If you are seeking information on an individual breeder, please ask for private responses.
I have thought about contacting the OSPCA but honestly, i dont want to cause huge problems.. I just thought that when you pay almost $2000 for a puppy, Lovina would offer some sympathy or care but i guess i was mistaken.
sorry to hear about your bad experience! I'll send you a message with some recomendations.
I sent you a friend request. you have to accept it before I can send you a message.
thanks so much
I'll send you a friend request, if you accept I'll be able to send you a message regarding the breeder we used.
There are several people on DK who have dogs from Burkharts, and have been very happy with their dogs. We considered Burkhart Kennels when we were looking for a breeder but I wasn't happy with the fact that all of the dogs are kenneled and none of them live in their house. I always considered their business to be a puppy 'farm' rather than a puppy mill. The dogs are treated like livestock rather than a loved part of the family.
thank you
I can't help you personally, but I am so sorry about your precious Max. That is terrible! Your breeder's cold treatment of you was really horrible! I can't imagine. I also can't believe she is breeding a 10 year old dog. Poor dog. I am very glad that you are on DK. This is the best place ever to learn more information so you can choose your next breeder wisely. There may be a lot of bad "breeders" out there, but there are a lot of really good ones too! Good luck with your new puppy!
I am sorry about the loss of your sweet dog and wish you luck in finding another puppy!
I am sorry to hear about Max. Breeding a 10 year old dog is criminal I think. I see everyone has given you links to all the great information on this site related to finding a good breeder. Good luck.
Oh my........... 10 years old? That's like Great Grandma giving birth.
I am hoping you get many private messages to stay clear from your last breeder and on to a new and better place.
I really am so sorry you lost your young dog and have had this grief. You do deserve a good breeder and some good advice.
Really, the best of luck to you and your family.
We've had discussions on this breeder, you can search for them.
