Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi y'all. We have a 4 month old f1b goldendoodle named Baylie. When we got her from the breeder, we were told she would be a medium, in about the 50 pound range. Both her parents (mom a goldendoodle and dad a standard poodle) were just under 50 pounds, and her grandfather on her mom's (goldendoodle) side was a mini poodle. Well at just under 4 months, she weighs 27 pounds. She weighed 13 pounds when we brought her home at 8 weeks. According to the growth predictors that I have seen, she should grow up to be about 65 pounds.

What is your experience. I'm interested an anyone that has had a puppy this size and what it grew up to be. Is it unusual for a puppy to be so much bigger than it's parents? I guess you've always got genes from generations back that can be a factor. I don't know much about breeding and genetics, but just interested in what your experiences are.

This is a photo of Baylie taken last week. She is 15 weeks and weighs 26 pounds and is standing next to my Beardie that weighs 48 pounds.

Hi Donna, just saw your post and looked my book that I kept track of my girls weights and heights as they were growing.  At 15 weeks my Annie was 26 lbs.  and at 9 weeks when we brought her home she was 9 lbs.   Annie is now 85 lbs. but tall.  At 15 weeks my Ashley was only 20 lbs.  and is now 78 lbs. and at 9 weeks she was 8 lbs. although a little shorter than Annie. Both girls stopped growing in height at a year old, but continued to gain weight up till they were almost 2 years old, when they really filled out. Both girls are tall but not at all fat.  Hope this helps.

My Goldendoodle they said would be 65lbs. He's 78lbs @ 11 months old. Dogs continue to grow to 2 years of age.

I have heard breeders say the weights of the parents to prospective owners as if there is an unbreakable rule about how the puppies can't be bigger than that--wrong! My Lyric is just barely 50 pounds and had a few litters (the dad was 38 pounds). The pup I kept from her first litter is 37 pounds (and was 20 pounds at 16 weeks), but two from her second litter were very big pups and both weighed over 30 pounds at 16 weeks. I expect they will weigh 60 -65 pounds as adults. I think that size can really vary, even though as a GENERAL rule, the dog ends up being between the two parents' sizes.

That said, I think your puppy is lovely and does not look like she has great big feet to grow into--I bet she will be 55 pounds.

HI Donna! Baylie and my Buster look so much alike - their coats appear to be the same - wooly. It will be interesting to see how they turn out at maturity. Buster was born on 11/29/2011 so they're also nearly the same age. Buster is an F2 (red Goldendoodle mom 26 lbs and white GD dad 40 lbs). He is 16 weeks old and weighs 16 lbs. I estimate that he'll weigh 30 - 35 lbs.  We'll see!

Awww. What a sweetie, I love the little white toes. Well, I think Baylie has already exceeded Buster's adult weight. At 18 weeks, she weight 32 pounds. We went to a pet expo last weekend and we saw a goldendoodle there that was rather large. I asked what he weighed and the owner said 76 pounds. Then he said that the dog was 7 months. OMD!!! He said the pup weighed 45 pounds at 4 months, so I don't think Baylie will get that large, at least :)

Sadie was a similar size when she came to us at 8 weeks. She is now five years old and 75 to 80 lbs.She is tall and slender. Our breeder also thought she would be 50  to 55 lbs.We love our BIG girl.

We will love Baylie regardless of how big she gets. You know, the only thing that concerns us about her size, is that we have always traveled with our dogs, and I know many hotels and B&Bs don't allow large dogs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 65 pounds. But, whatever.....
