I'm looking for something that will help with the ticks. My puppy is 6mo old, was vaccinated but got Lyme disease anyway. She is brown and it is really hard to find the ticks on her. A friend told me recently that they used to use a Tick-Clip that attached to the dog's collar. The reviews are mixed. Have any of you guys used them? I found two different kinds online. Does anyone know of a different one or something that can be used with Advantix to prevent ticks?

Anibio Tic-Clip

The easiest way I've found to remove ticks. Best 75¢ you'll ever spend. You can get them on Amazon.

There was an old discussion here somewhere which pretty much proved this thing is worthless hokum. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I vaguely remember that. Wouldn't it be lovely....

There's a pretty funny video included in this discussion.

Thanks Karen - I searched Tick Clip and Anibio and found nothing. The video is no longer available. It sounded like pure pseudoscience but my husband's friend swears that his dog has not gotten a tick since putting it on. I think some dogs are just more delicious than others and maybe that dog would not have gotten any ticks with or without it. My puppy is obviously yummy. :(

I've told this story before, but it's worth telling it again. It's about fleas, not ticks, but the point is the same.

With my last dog, I did not use anything to prevent fleas (ticks are not an issue in my area). Nada, nothing. And for 14 and a half years, my dog never got fleas, even though I lived right near the woods.  So for that whole 14.5 years, I could have said, "Using nothing works to prevent fleas, because my dog never got them." Other people's dogs got fleas, and I thought, well, my dog is healthier, or has a better diet, or is better groomed, or something.

And then, at 14.5 years of age, she got the mother of all flea infestations. It took months and thousands of dollars to eradicate them.

Point being, of course, that when it comes to parasites, there's just no way to know which dog is going to attract which bug, or when. I think your friend is just lucky.

I think you're right. It is so sad I don't let my dog lay down in the yard. She loves to just lounge in the sun and take a little snooze but I don't let her because of the ticks.

I had a similar story with my kids. I have 4 kids. The first two were so easy. I had a friend that had this kid who was willful and would always throw temper tantrums. I used to think I had superior parenting skills and that was why my kids were so well behaved. I had to push things and have that third kid and he was crazy, climbed on things, pouted, threw temper tantrums etc. Yea, it brought me down a peg or two. :) I never looked at moms with unruly children with that smug smile again. lol

Advantix protects from ticks though--are you saying you think you need something WITH the Advantix to keep ticks off? I use Advantix alone and year round, live in a very densely tick infested area and have never found a tick on my dogs. On the other hand, my neighbor uses Advantix in the warmer months only and I found 13 ticks on her dog ("only" three were embedded) when I groomed her.

My dog still gets ticks even with the Advantix. She gets at least 2-3 every week, they are all embedded (and huge). It is so gross. She is currently on medication for Lyme disease. I'm having her groomed pretty short tomorrow so hopefully it will be easier to find them. I asked the vet if there is some kind of collar or powder that you can use in addition to the Advantix, he said they would not be healthy when used together. So I am looking for something / anything that will prevent her from getting ticks. It was such a mild winter and they are prediction that the ticks will be bad this spring. The poor little thing is plagued with ticks. The vet said he has never seen a dog get so many ticks. He applied the Advantix last month thinking maybe I was not putting it on correctly, it's not rocket science. :) So I'm looking for some miracle cure.

Miracles....very short supply. :)

:)

you find that miracle, please share!

She might be a tick magnet but she is just the cutest thing.
